ah, 2 year old terror

i am so frustrated. DS has just turned 2 and is non stop creating mischief or destruction.

if he gets in to the bathroom (he can't open door yet, but DD will leave it open) he throws water all over the floor or floods the sink. he won't leave dvd player/tv alone. he will climb up on tv cabinet. he will climb book cases, he will climb anything...

i can't leave anything within his reach or it is likely to go missing or be damaged.

he is just way inquisitive, but i can't leave him alone for a even a few minutes without issues. and i have a newborn coming soon. and there is nowhere i can leave him where he is safe.

so what do i do??

the hot weather is not helping, cos i can't just send them outside to play. being 23 months pg isn't helping either;). but surely others have been there

Lol.....sorry not much help but my 2 year old boy is exactly the same. I just found him in the kitchen putting the dirty cutlery from the dishwasher back into the clean drawers. Whilst eating a piece of bread which he had managed to get from the bench. We have also had 3+ days of 40+ heat so the house is getting slowly destroyed as he carts things from a to b.

Just joining the two year old vent - emotional, won't let it go meltdowns from DD this week. Sorry Hotl wish I could say something wise. X

I'm there, but I'm not expecting a nb. Dd3 is by far the most frustrating child I've met. I can't even turn my back to wash up with out something being emptied/ruined/drawn on.

Also awesome that my older girls are old enough to have little bits & pieces like nail polish & jewellery & that dd will get a chair & climb to the highest shelf. School things like scissors are even better. We already had a Rihanna hair cut. It's finally growing back now!!

I'm no help. I have no idea what you can do, except to take each day as it comes.
But you do have my sympathy!

megs, i see you have older boys. does it end?

yeah, having older kids who 'help' (by unlocking doors or giving things that DS can't get to :wall ) or have non-2 yr old friendly 'things' definitely makes it harder.

my walls have some extra art pieces thanks to DS. my laptop has a cracked screen. i try to create an environment where the things he can access are safe, but he can get destructive or messy with almost anything. and i can't suspend the house (or him) to the ceiling.

he is not 'naughty' just interested in bloody everything and doesn't have self control yet.

I am right there with you HotI! My 2 year old is into everything, and when I'm busy cleaning up one of his messes, he's making another one. He is obsessed with the toilet, with microwaves, taps. Climbs up on anything. Broken my phone more times than I can say. Broken my kindle. But I can say that it does end, my 4.5 year old grew out of it ;)

DS1 is shocking. He climbs on chairs. Headbutts everything. pulls things out of the pantry. steals the broom and brandishes it at me. (stop laughing) Snatches toys, won't share. Spreads toys all over the house. Jumps on the bed. Squeezes toothpaste onto the rug, encourages his baby brother to crawl in it. (seriously, stop laughing). The worst one? DOESN'T LISTEN!

It's so hard to keep my tone and volume in check. He just keeps at it, no matter how many times we tell him not to do something.

I'm nervous about what DS2 has up his sleeve for me when he's older.

Sorry, I just realized I have no solutions other than to put anything valuable in a safety deposit box somewhere overseas. :rolleyes:

Hmm... The jury is out on weather or not my dd is inquisitive or just plain naughty. I actually think she has the same impulse control issues as dd2. But worse :/ since we are 3y 4m over here!! Beyond the typical terrible 2's.

Hot1, in answer to your question re getting better, I don't know my 4th son has been my most strong willed, stubborn and inquisitive of all 4 boys. My 3rd son especially was very very placid, easy going. Ds 4 is a whirlwind, doesn't help the he has older brothers as he copies them, gets access to things, but part of it is his personality. He ended up having a few trips to the naughty step yesterday for high pitch squealing when he didn't get his own way.
