Smelly ears
Ok, so I've been noticing a smell around DS lately....has me checking his nappy waaaay too often, but it's not that. I figured it was just gas, but we're having cuddles now and I think it's his ear(s)...smells kind of like rotting food. No other symptoms, no fever etc Ideas? Is a visit to the GP in order?

Re: Smelly ears
Yes go to a gp. How old is he? It could be something he placed in his ears or even his nose which is causing the smell.

Re: Smelly ears
Do you clean all behind his ears when you bath him? Sometimes the gunky stuff they somehow produce behind their ears can be smelly if you miss some, in my experience.

Re: Smelly ears
He's only 10 weeks, so no, hasn't put anything in there himself! And behind his ears are (obsessively) clean. It's definitely the inside. Will clean the outside again and if it's still there, we might go to the docs, jic.

Re: Smelly ears
Hmm.. Yeah probably too young to be shoving things in his ears/ nose then! :-). Could be an infection of some kind. Has he had any other unusual symptoms? Most drs are happy to see babies anytime so I would def take him in for a looksy.

Re: Smelly ears
When you clean his ears, do you dry them afterwards? DD1 had "cheesy" ears and under her neck rolls, so I learnt to dry very thoroughly. It started building up on DD2 a couple of weeks ago, but I put a stop to it fairly quickly. On the occasions where drying didn't get rid of it completely, I put a dab of bepanthen to heal it too :)

Re: Smelly ears
Is it the fold under his chin? I remember around this age discovering the most awful smell on DD and it was that! She had a red rash under there from it not getting any air. It was really smelly.
I cleaned it and put some nappy cream on and it cleared it!
