So, while I and my family clearly don't poo (our food is processed and comes out as rainbows and unicorns which shoot out of our finger tips) there are some dark stains on the base of the toilet which will not move for love or money (or beach, harpic or scrubbing).
Ideas?
Subbing cause we have a spot that just wont budge too...
DH used sulfamic acid. he got some called "glitz" all purpose descaler powder from Bunnings.
obviously being an acid, it needs to be done when kids are not going to be in the toilet area for an hour or 2..
Pour about a cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl and swish it around with a toilet brush. Let it sit for about a minute. Then add about 1 cup (amount doesn’t need to be exact) of bi carb soda to the toilet bowl and follow it by adding another cup or two of vinegar. Allow about 10 minutes for the fizzing action to work. Use the toilet brush to swish the solution around the bowl making sure to get the solution onto any stains that are above the water line. Don’t flush the toilet. Let the vinegar and soda solution sit a while. Then try scrubbing any remaining stains.

Subbing in - I just can't get the bottom of our toilet clean ! And my brush just doesn't get down far enough.

I've been told to put denture cleaner tablet things in the bowl overnight...worth a try?
Tried the bicarb and soda, but it didn't do much good ... will try some of the more heavy duty option soon ...
I've heard the denture cleaning one too. Before I could try it, I used a toilet cleaner product with lactic acid as the active ingredient, which did the trick. I just swizzed it into the bowl last thing before bed & left it overnight. Sorry I can't remember what brand it was, but it got it at the normal supermarket.
I often have to resort to CLR here as our water is so hard. The denture tablets don't work so well for me.
I also find when pushed a sachet of descaling solution in boiling water also works well (I always have that since I have to do the kettle so often).
If you have used bleach in the past on a number of occasions it could have actually ruined the enamel on the bottom of the toilet - it's beat to stick to proper toilet cleaners and a brush. It you have black marks there's probably nothing you can do as the enamel has been burnt (That's my understanding anyway!!) Be careful about which chemicals you use cause damage can be done!
I know that you said you'd tried bleach, but have you tried the bleach tablets you get in a little bottle? Chuck a few in and leave over night....might work.
At the risk of freaking you right out......
It's a toilet, you don't drink from it, you **** in it. You keep it clean, so the mark is just cosmetic not a sign of lack of hygiene, so possibly, instead of nuking it and throwing a billion different chemicals out into the earth you could just learn to live with the unsightly stain.

Yeah no. It would drive me nuts too. But then everyone has their thing. Go the billions of chemicals. And as for CLR. It actually has low impact on the environment :)
I like a clean loo too.
I'm convinced my loo doesn't say anything about me but I can guarantee it's got some stories to tell about my DP ;)
