Have just had it suggested that DS may have sleep apnoea due to large tonsils.
Would certainly explain some of his grumpiness! But have never noticed snoring?

Sorry I don't have any advice, but my DSD is a very loud snorer, sleeps with her mouth wide open, often coughs and splutters during sleep, etc. her Dad has taken her to an ENT who recommended tonsil removal. Shame he and his ex argue on everything so she refuses to accept there is a problem, and my DSD goes on suffering from lack of sleep. She is quite a zombie during the day.
Who suggested it? If you think they are onto something, go to your GP and get a referral to an ENT. Good luck!
Both my son and daughter had unusually enlarged adenoids and tonsils, both to the point that if you bent their necks back they would pertrude out of their necks. My son was 1 when he had a sleep apnoea and it didnt bother him much at all, but couldnt have an operation till the age of 5.
My daughter is also now under observation as hers is alot more severe but according to the dr they are cracking down on the amount of removals in children( correct me if I'm wrong)
You will def see an improvement once they do have them removed! Sleeping is more undisturbed and they seem to wake less irritated.
Also my daughter has a husky deep voice which the dr said could be from the adenoids pushing on her vocal chords.
Thing is when they do get sick they get it a lot worse as they are already enlarged so when they get ill they swell even bigger, which my son had to be on steroids for.

My Daughter has sleep apnoea from extremely large tonsils (Grade 4 even when she doesn't have a throat infection) she is having them removed as soon as her platelet count is high enough. As she has a low platelet count they wont operate at the moment.
She snores extremely loudly. She also sleeps more then normal for a 6 year old.
Sparklez, I think I heard that too, about the crackdown.
Yeah it sort of sucks cause the kids that really need it have to prove why they need it. My daughter needs it done asap and had tonsillitis literally 10 times last winter and every time she got better she copped it again. So you could imagine what her throat and neck looked like.:

Yep DS had apnoea and large tonsils and adenoids removed at age 4. Best thing ever. He was always tired and irritable, and having his tonsils/adenoids out fixed that. He still sleeps like a complete log!
