DD is formula fed and has just turned one. For the past 3 weeks or so she has only been drinking half her bottles. She isn't sick and is eating solids fine. She gets excited when the bottle comes and gulps it down (this is normal for her) but when she's half way done she isn't interested anymore.
Is this weaning? Should I just halve her bottles? I am unsure...
I don't know the answer to your question, but I did wonder - considering your other posts about money and all that - formula is expensive, maybe now that she is over 12 months it's worth considering cows milk? Just a thought.
Myturn, I have been wondering that also. Last week I forgot her bottle for daycare. So they gave her some cows milk, but watered it down slightly. They said she didn't drink it so I continued with the formula. I have a mchn appointment today so I will ask what they think. I might start doing half half or something :)
Sounds like a good plan.
My uneducated guess is that she is telling you she doesn't need or want it anymore and to go by that. It will be interesting to hear what the MCH nurse thinks.
Sounds like you might be able to gradually Change from formula to cows milk. We did 75% formula to 25% cows milk then 50/50 and so on so she could get used to the taste. We also started offering cups with spouts except for her before bed bottle and that worked well.
Health nurse said just do 50/50 or similar too. So I guess i'll start doing that. And I just bought a new tin of formula!

It's going well thanks. The other day I accidently left the formula at home and she didn't even notice :) I have 3/4 of a tin left so I will stop after it's all gone.:
That's great Tasha. My DD was mix fed from day 3 and if felt odd and a bit like grief when we stopped the formula. I guess it was because she was growing up.
It is weird, my little bubba is growing up! I can't imagine her not having a bottle :lol:
We too have weaned to cows milk. We half halved until the formula was gone. He doesn't like milk as much as formula so have been dropping the amounts. He was on 210ml formula now around 150/180. Night time one is 200ml. He has 3 bottles a day now. Its so nice not having to buy formula or make it up. Just buy milk and pour :)
Thats probably a good thing Vic that he doesn't like it as much. It will make it easier to wean and he might not be so 'bottle clingy' kwim? Dd has 180ml morning at night and a small 120ml around 2pm. I have just dropped the 2pm one to 100ml and the others used to be 210ml. So I'll just keep reducing slowly as time goes on I guess. Then switch to a sippy cup.
Yep, 12 months is about the right time to cut it out. Food is a better source of nutrition now. It's great if she's doing it herself.
Milk from another species (or plants, I guess) is fine as a part of the diet, but it's not necessary to have more than a little. It's food that's important, a nice broad diet. :)
