Hi, my bub is 8months tomorrow (Monday) and is having grommets inserted Friday. We have tried all things natural etc so are going down the surgery path. Anyone have experience with bubs this young and grommets?
Also she is breastfed and feeds frequently - a lot! So I'm concerned about fasting. Any tips?
My first had grommets adenoids and tonsils done before she turned 3 but this is so different!

My understanding is that fir that age, breast milk is classed as clear fluids so you may not need to fast fir as long.
My dd was 16 months which was tough as she was a very frequent feeder too :( good thing was that we were first up bring the youngest on the list.
Check with the hospital about fasting periods as some will still dans a longer fasting time.
Tips would be to try and get someone to help you for the day and hold your dd. Small babies often do better with fasting when breastfeed if not held by mum - smelling the milk can set them off.

Thanks ladies. I was actually thinking it might be better to have it in the arvo. At least then I wouldn't be up with a screaming hungry baby through the night. Husband is on night shift Thursday night so won't get home until 8am so will be of no help (as much as he would want to be). Will ring the doctor tomorrow to see if they have times.
Hi, my daughter was 18 months. I was very concerned, wasn't breastfeeding but very unsettled child. They did her first in the day. However, she was allowed to have milk and water prior to 7.00 am on the day of surgery but no food from midnight. Just confirm with the doctor again, that this isn't the case. PS. Best thing I ever did was get grommets for my daughter!! Also hot tip - use a blow dryer after showers and baths near their ears, drys up any water in the ear, stops bacteria, once grommets are in.
You can breastfeed up to two hours prior to surgery.

ETA - it's so weird how the instant your child hits 12 months breastmilk switches from a clear fluid to food when making these calculations....:rolleyes:
