Questions/support advice

Hello, I was wondering if someone could offer a little help...

My brother's boyfriend's (JM) son's girlfriend (sorry if that was a bit confusing haha) was around 28 weeks pregnant and had to have a c-sec today due to problems with the placenta and heavy bleeding, baby boy is a tiny 12 ounces.. As far as I know, aside from obviously being very early and small, he is otherwise healthy and fine, but JM is very worried that his grandson wont be around for very long due to his earlyness and small size.
I want to try and offer him some words of comfort etc, so I was wondering if anyone has/knows of anyone who has had a 28ish week prem birth and roughly how long bub could stay in NICU and some good-news stories, just to put his mind at ease?

At the moment JM is 4.5 hours away from where his son and the mum and bub are and due to work he cant get there just yet, and the poor guy is too scared to ask for a photo as he is scared to see all the machines bub will likely be hooked up to..

Sending positive vibes to bub and his family. There are many positive stories of ex 28weekers doing exceptionally well. I believe the survival rate is now excellent. I would however have concerns if bub is really only 12oz. That is only 340grams which is absolutely tiny for a 28weeker. Is there any chance the dates are incorrect and bub is infact earlier? As if this is the case the chances of survival will be reduced. If bub is definitely 28weeks and only that size he has been compromised for a long time so there are also other factors to consider not just gestation.
I don't want to be negative and do hope to God bub is strong and a little fighter.

Hi Mildez, thank you for your reply.. Unfortunately the weight is correct, and I have been told he is 2 months early. If I understand correctly she had placental abruption, thus explaining his small size for his age. As far as I know mum is still in surgery due to the bleeding so I really hope that everything goes ok with her. I hope to find out more information soon from JM when he hears more (hes worried aswell)
From what I remember him telling me a few weeks ago, the placental abruption started a few weeks ago (possibly only mildly) and the drs just wanted to keep him in there for as long as possible, but the bleeding got worse and they opted for the c-sec

That is absolutely tiny for a 28weeker (about 1/3 of average size), my 19weeker angel was that size.
Honestly I think this bub will need a miracle.

Its very confronting seeing all the tubes and machines, I was lucky that my boy was only on support for 2 weeks, so I did get newborn pics without all the tubes.

Just thought I would update, Baby went to sleep on Monday :(
Mum is doing fine physically but both are wrecked emotionally, as you would expect
