Ryan Lee’s Birth Story (Sonsangels)
Monday 16th October
Dh & I walked into Day Surgery. 10:45am.
I handed over my booking in paperwork & medicare card to the receptionist. Was told to sit the m/w wont be long. 45 mins later a volunteer research lady approached us to ask if we’d like to donate 10mls of bubs’ cord blood to the Peter Mac Clinic for stem cell research handed us some paperwork and explained the ethic’s of it all etc. Also asked if we would be interested in donating 20mls of amniotic fluid for a study on babies born before their due date, think it was for some Dr doing research here at the Mercy.
Anyway, she left us to talk between us and decided to go ahead with it.
As we signed the papers I was asked to go in to get dressed into a spunky costume complete with pink frilly hat and wonderful foot covers.
Had some bloods taken, bp measured 120/70 – wow so calm huh!! The dreaded scales told me great news I’d only put on 14kgs through the whole pregnancy, Woohoo. It was great knowing I’d be going home dble figures, as I only weighed 102kgs, weight was 87.5kg. This was at 14wks, didn’t weigh myself before or after till then.
After the results came back and just before I went in I began crying. Emotions got the better of me. To tell you the truth I was bloody scared of something going wrong. Totally normal reaction I was told. Anyway cutting it shorter now, I sat up half on the bed with feet on a chair, pillow under my chest hugging it when a nurse brought in a heated up blanket for me, ahhhh told her I loved her, lol. The part I was most scared about the spinal. Which ended up being a totally pain free experience, thanks to the hypnobirthing method of relaxation. Thanks Elissa for the lend of the book & Lise for the lend of the CD’s.
I looked out the door after it was all done just to see if Ian was about and there was a really spunky Ob there, sort of reminded me of Kym Hyde on H&A, he did the assisting and sewed me up.
The block began to take effect pretty quickly, I said ohhh my bum feels warm, they all laughed and said great block to Sally the anesthetist. Ian walked in gave me a big kiss and said hey hotty want a date. Lmao he had a bright fluro pink hair net on was pretty funny, eased my nerves a little too. The camera decided to play up and wouldn’t turn on, wahhhh. Still no birth pic’s.
The surgery began, once we heard the suction like the coffee machine baby Ryan Lee was born, with a silent experience, his wittle foot popped over the curtain, Ian announced here’s our baby SON!! Yay, I was right. 2:03pm.
Ian left me to go with Ryan to cut his cord and meet him. Weighed him 3.660kgs. (8lb 5oz) 52cms long. They brought Ryan over to me his eyes were closed and he was making the small baby noises, not upset at all just the squeaky ones. His apars were 9 & 9. It was a very special time as they let him stay with me for a good 15mins, Ian kept kissing me on the forehead and said g’day mate to little Ryan. I noticed his auburn hair and and that gorgeous little nose, just like the 3d pic of him. I welcomed Ryan and told him it was great to finally meet you, your brother Cameron is going to just love you!!
As they left the staff congratulated us over and over, it was wonderful. After an hour’s stint in the recovery I was taken back to my room where the boys were waiting. Also one very hungry boy, who latched on perfectly. Awsome another booby boy has been born, hehe. He fed for an hour non stop and didn’t hurt me one bit. It was after the feed I got to see him open his eyes for the first time. He seems to be so placid and easy going for now. C.J was full on alert with open eyes meeting me whilst still in theater.
It really is such a relief to know you can have a positive ceaser birth esp after such a rushed experience last time.
