Help!!!! - Are we the only one with this problem??

I have ready through the history pages and cant seem to find ayone else with this problem.

After ttc for 12 months we went to see the GP. He sent us both for tests, and while mine came back normal, DH wasnt so lucky. His semen analysis said that there was no sperm in his sample. We were told the news over the phone, and we both just sat there on shock. The GP was also confused about the re****s too. When I asked what we should do next he said ' I suppose we can repeat the test'

Now, that was one week ago and we have not slept much and I have lost 4kgs due to the stress.

As a child DH had an undecended testicle (medical name cryptorchidism). It was in his groin. Apparently this is not uncommon. It has to be surgically corrected and brought down into the scrotum. This is usually done to a baby when he is 6 -24 months old. Unfortunately DH remembers the operation and thinks he was 6 or 7 at the time.

We didnt think that this would be an issue, but I have been doing a whole lot of research on the internet, and due to the temperature on the groin, it damages the sperm production, and can also damage the other one that was not decended.

I assume his parents were told of possible infertility at the time but they have never spoken to us about it. I am feeling angry that they didnt have it corrected earlier. Because we have have not told anyone we are ttc we have not approached them about it, but at the same time we are experiencing preassure to have a baby. On the inside we are falling apart, but trying to act happy.

I dont was to waste time with the GP repeating the test, but who do we need to see? Is it a Reproductive Endocrinologist? Has anyone else experienced this? Will we ever conceive or is our world about to fall apart? I assume we cant use IVF, No sperm = no baby!! Does anyone have ay recommendations of doctors we can see in Melbourne?

I'm sorry that you and DH have received such devastating news. I know it seems a bit futile to you at the moment but it might not hurt to repeat the test. At least if you get the same result twice, you will have a better idea about the next step.

In any case, you might like to ask your GP for referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist at one of the IVF clinics (they will have a CREI accreditation). The doctors there are experienced with male and female infertility and can explain your options to you. If you would like, please email me and we can talk a bit more about this

Sorry to hear about your news. It feels like a real kick in the guts doesn't it?

I'm no expert, but I would have the test done again, to be sure, and if the results are the same, go and see a specialist. I know it must seem sureal to you and your DH and the moment, but just hang in there.

Remember we are all here to offer support and any help we can.

And I do know what you're going through, my DH has 100% abnormal sperm, so no chance of us concieving naturally.

First welcome to BB, sorry it is for such devestating reasons. A close friend of ours has had this exact problem, his wasnt rectified either until he was about 9 or 10, apparently was the kind of thing that can easily go unnoticed.

Anyway, he saw both a reproductive endocrinologist and a urologist. He was unable to have the problem rectified unfortunately (but am sure that is not always the case, so chin up sweetie) and he and his wife are now undergoing IVF where the sperm is taken via a type of biopsy (not aware of the exact procedure, sorry) and they are about to have their second go at it and have been told the odds are fairly good.

Am hoping you get the answers you desperately seek very soon.

Hi Girls

Thanks so much for the support and encouragement. We are going to see the GP on thursday night, I am going to ask for a referall to a RE.
I know that I am stressing when we havent had any other tests (other than that one semen analysis) to say that there is an irreversable problem.
I suppose we can repeat the semen test with the GP while we are waiting for an appointment with a RE.
Although I think I am in a bit of denial at the moment, I have half convinced myself that we will never have children, I feel a bit icky about donor sperm. I cant help playing the 'what if' game in my head. DH wanted to start trying as soon as we were married but I convinced him to wait two years, we just had our third anniversary last week, It was always 'when I finish uni, when we pay off more of the mortgage, when we have more savings etc etc....'.
I suppose we still have time on our side, i am 26 and DH is 28. I just need to push it out of my mind for a few weeks, (on top of all this pressure I am studying to be a CPA, and also have been retrenched so I have to get a new job at the end of june) Once I have sat my exam I can stress again.

DH has banned me from researching on the internet because it gets me upset and I cant concentrate on my study. He is acting very cool about the whole thing, I think its a tough man act, he has always been a man of few words. Ironic though, he has always loved kids more that me and is better with them than me, (im a bit more career minded) and he is the one with the problem.

Hey, has anyone been to a psychic? I saw one two months ago, a lot of the things she has said had or did happen. She did say that we wouldnt need ivf and would have two children and may possibly go for a third. She said it would be boy, girl, girl. She did say that we dont have any medical problems and DH should get his sperm checked. I think this is the denial talking again.

Keen, I would be curious to hear how your friends go with their their second go at the the biopsy thing (I have read about that). My biggest worry is that there would be no sperm in there to remove via the biopsy. How many does he have removed at a time? Anyway I better go because i am at work, good luck for thursday Keen.
