Hcg levels at 14dpo were 39 and at 16dpo they were only 40. I have been very stressed and am wondering if that is affecting the hcg levels.

Yes stress can sometimes do that. I would expect your Hcg levels to be in the hundreds in the next couple of days
Many women have low and slow rising Hcg levels in the beginning, and have a happy and healthy pregnancy. It's easy for me to say 'don't stress and worry', but do try and take it easy and enjoy the journey. Take Care. X
Congrats on your pregnancy...
Thanks for the responses. I have since started having bad uterine cramping and had my hsg tested again, it was only 21 so the Dr said its non viable. Today I still have very bad cramping but no bleeding, just waiting.
My thoughts and prayers are with you sjs.

Thanks ttcn02, your response is a comfort. Not sure about when to try again or to get some more comprehensive tests done first? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Im 39 so time is not on my side.

Honey I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that we are here for you :hugs:.
You may not be ready yet, but when you are you might want to pop in on the TTC After late loss - recurrent loss - stillbirth thread because some of the women there have experienced recurrent m/c and may be able to help you in your search for answers.
Lots of warm, fuzzy cuddles
Take care
