what songs do you sing to your baby?

I sing "You are my sunshine" to Flynn and have done since he was a newborn - it now acts like a wonder drug! Talk about music soothing the savage beast!

The nicest thing about this is my mother sang it to me as a baby!

So what songs do you sing your babies, and what are the lyrics if you don't mind sharing. Here is "You are my sunshine":

When Kameron was a baby it was "Hey Baby" by DJ somebody or other LMAO. Not great lyrics for a boys since it is "I wanna know if you'll be my girl" rofl. But when it used to be on the Video Hits if he was upset he would stop.

When Lachlan was a baby I used to walk around the house holding him singing "hey big spender" by peggy lee. But I would just sing the following bits.

" The minute you walked in the joint,
I could see you were a man of distinction,
A real big spender,
Good looking, so refined.

Hey, big spender, spend...

Ashton I haven't had a song for. But I haven't had to walk around the house trying to settle a screaming baby either ........ yet ;) he usually stops crying when he is picked up.

I made up a song to sing to Gabriella, words of which are pretty daggy but it went for around 4 verses plus chorus! Chorus was:

She has a mummy and a daddy who love her so much
And a doggy called Bonnie who loves to touch...

The verses were about other family members...she seemed to love it!:D Also used to sing that song from Young Talent Time although I can't quite remember it all now -"Keep smiling, keep shining? Knowing you can always count on me, for sure - thats what friends are for. In good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more...thats what friends are for"!

As for Alex I just hum along to the tune that plays on his Fisher Price aqaurium thingy.Maybe I will have to make up a song for him too!

I have always sung the "Pushbike Song" to Riley from the start... I usually sing it when he's getting his nappy changed and move his legs to the words - he loves it!! It always gets a smile! :)

When we are soothing him or trying to get him to sleep we sing "4 and 20 Blackbirds" or "Row Row Row Your Boat" (not sure of the real names of the songs?!) and both of those seem to do well. :)

The "Pushbike Song" words I sing (not sure if they're exactly right) are:

Haha, Gabysmum...we have done the same for Riley, although the words may change a little each time we sing it but it's always similar stuff to your song. (and we even have a dog named Bonnie!)

LOL sherie i have a friend who remembers her dad singing the pushbike song to her as a baby ! I vaugely remember being a baby and my parents singing 99 red balloons to me :o)

When Aidyn was younger we would sing a lot of songs that we made up ourselves eg. to the 'Hey there blimpy boy' song/tune that Homer sings, we would sing 'Hey there, darling boy' etc etc. And there were a few more that we made up...

These days I sing him the 'I love you' song from Barney (even though I hate Barney!) and I sing him the Moon song (which I got off Playshool):

Don't want to subject me babies to my voice, it sure wouldn't put them to sleep LOL.

I sing 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' and 'Three Little Ducks' to Maddy. *L* I'm not much of a singer, my DD is 'music critic' it appears, and I'm not sure warbling along to my Westlife albums counts! *L*

I am the worst singer in the world but Sophia doesn't care! I tell DH that I want as many children as possible cause my baby is the only person who actually likes my singing.

I'm not sure what the song is called but it goes, "My Bonnie lies over the ocean..." except that I've changed it to say "Sophia lies over the ocean...". She loves it. We also sing others at bed time but that's her favourite.

I'm a terrible singer but Cooper seems to like "Incy Wincy Spider". I sing this to him while changing his nappy (if he's fussing) or at other times when he's getting cranky. He always smiles.

Or I just say the line "Elmo is soooooooooooo big" which is from a book I read to him every night. I can just say that line now and he'll smile so much - even without seeing the pictures (it's got a pop up Elmo at the end).

Jesse has a playgro little sun mirror hangy thing i got from my sister, when pressed plays the tune you are my sinshine. I sing it to him then. Otherwise i sing Rock-a-By Baby or Beautiful Boy by John lennon:

I know isnt it. I was hoping when i was pregnant that id have a little boy to sing that to. Its such a beautiful song. :)

I used to sing The Rose alot when she was really unsettled as a small baby. Even as a 14-16mo I found humming it to her settled her at nighttime. This was before Westlife came out with it.... ;)

I sing everything to Jenna, we constantly sing everything from Wiggles songs to nursary rhymes to whatever is on the radio.
Hopefully she can carry a tune

Also, she gets the hiccups all the time and they inevitably pi$$ her off, so I try to sing to her to distract her. I made up one - 'Oh Hiccupy Baby', but last time I made myself laugh by singing 'My Little Hiccup' to the tune of 'My Little Buttercup' - very sad I know!

My Dad made up a song for my brother when he was a baby. I used it for Alex and now for Ned, and whenever it's sung, Ned puts his head down on your shoulder and snuggles in, and knows he's going to bed. So cute.

Kellxx - I'm a Beatles fan too - I think my parents got me in young like I'm doing to Lucas. I mostly sing Obla Dee Obla Dah & Elanor Rigby (hope I'm not scarring him with that "all the lonley people") 'cause I know all the words. I love Beautiful Boy - DH did a video when Lucas was 3 days with that song and it always makes me cry.
