MY Horrible 6 Week PostPartum Check

I went to my ob on friday for my six week check. After waiting for an hour and 10 minutes past my appointment time I finally got in to see him. He checked Noah first for a heart murmur etc and everything was fine :D. Then he checked me. It was so freaking painful, I was gasping and trying so hard not to move (internals never normally bother me). He told me there was quite a bit of scar tissue and the proceeded to try to stretch it. OMG it was agony. Once he'd finished he asked me if I had a pad (obviously he'd stirred everything back up down there) and told me to get up & get redressed and he'd be back in in a few minutes to discuss everything.
Unfortunately right after he left the room he was called away to a delivery!
I couldn't be bothered hanging around any longer for him to come back so I rescheduled another appointment for Monday 29th.
Yesterday afternoon he called me & told me that nothing's healing as it should be. There is apparently a large ridge of tender (nah you don't say?) scar tissue at the back of my vagina & the surrounding tissue is super thin.
So now I have to go back to him to discuss what we're going to do together with when & where.
The "when & where" part of that statement have me totally thinking I'm going to need some sort of surgery to debride the wound.
Does anyone have any experience with anything similar?
I am dreading even going back to the ob because I know he's going to want to another internal & it was sooo painful!

On a brighter note: Noah had his 6 week health check on Tuesday (at 5 weeks 4 days) and he's doing really well.
He weighed in at 11lbs 14.7oz & was 61cm! He'd grown 3cm in 11 days!

Lotus, give your body time to heal, 6 weeks is just a blink of an eye. I had similar issues 6 months after DD was born when I finally found a GP who specialised in women's health issues. She gave me a script for vaginal oestrogen tablets, which helps to reoestrogenise the thin tissues and helps with healing generally. After taking these for a few months I found it helped with my scars as well (although I had residual pain for quite a while afterwards) so this was a better option than surgery. So don't freak out too much, it might just be a case of some time and a bit of hormonal help, rather than necessarily going down a surgical path.

awww Lotus I had an awful check 5 weeks post baby. I had an internal & it was so painful with tears rolling down my cheeks. It was awful.... I'm supposed to go back too and haven't yet.

lotus, i was told pretty much the same thing, that i would need scar tissue from the same spot surgically removed, i saw an ob who told me to cut a scar would leave a scar, gave me oestrogen cream and advised me to try and stretch it myself over the coming months, then reassess, this suits me as i dont want an op... good luck

I went for my " 6week " check about 3 or 4 months after Aneta was born - and it hurt even though i made my doctor promise she would be extra extra careful... i cannot imagine how much it would have hurt at 6 weeks !
Let us know how you go at the next appointment , maybe there will be a solution that wont require surgery

Just see my thread below about being "recut and restitched". I was told at my 6 week check that I had healed too tightly.

I'm dreading seeing my OB again too!

Thanks guys I guess I just thought of the worst possibility. Should give him a chance to explain before jumping to conclusions I guess.
Would oestrogen mess with my milk supply though? I am exclusively breast feeding at the moment.

lotus, i exclusivley BF as well, havent noticed drop in milk production, i just make sure i drink heaps, if i dont i then notice it;s lower, not sure if the creams the culprit, but so far so good.

Aww you poor thing.. unfortunately these things take time. I had to go and see am OB as i had a large skin tag.. he also did a PS at the same time which hurt like hell! As the silver nitrate didnt work he had to physically remove my skin tag.. and he did this with NO local! OMG It hurt just as much as labour if you ask me! But once it was fixed then i felt 99% better! I had gone through weeks and weeks of pain, not being able to stand for long or sit in certain positions. So you poor thing, i know how painful it all can be, but if it needs to be fixed, i think its best to do get it done, otherwise youll just continue to be in pain. But yeh, talk to the OB on your next appointment, things hopefully will be easy fixed like AJP's was.. and if he goes to do anything more just tell him how much it hurts and ask if he can give you a local.

I still havent gone for my week check up....i will one day soon.... i think after hearing so many ladies say they need to be cut, restitched, healed to tight etc....im scared as to what my dr may say to me!!

Hi everyone...

I have been reading these posts with a screwed up face just imagining all of these painful internals and i didn't even have one..when i went for my 6 wk check up all my ob did was felt my stomach and checked my stitch's (second degree tear)...I was petrified before i went in , i mean i couldn't even bare being checked to see how dilated i was when i was in early labor..i did have it in my head that most doctors did internals at the 6wk check...boy!!!was i relieved...i don't know if not doing an internal is bad or not...but i wasn't going to ask for one!! At the end of my visit he said i was healing well, and i have been..i'd be interested to know if anyone thinks not having an internal is odd or not..

I just had my 6 week (at 9 weeks) check today. My doctor asked how i felt, how was DTD, and did my stitches heal ok... said yes and then because there were no problems he said there was no need for an internal :)

I know I was given an internal due to my extensive tearing (it was all internal!) I'm not sure what's normal in regards to internal or not.

I have had an internal at all three 6wks check ups. I suppose every Dr will be different, but my Dr checks to make sure that the cervix has gone back to the right spot.

I'm very sorry to hear what you went through, you must of been trying to push yourself through the table to get away!!:(

I got my checkup too, my doctor wanted to check since I was there for Maya's 6-8 week check. I had a episiotomy and have healed wonderfully, I even had my pap smear which was overdue because of my pregnancy. I would be going to someone different if thats possible or just plainly tell him that he hurt you last time and would appreciate a bit more delicate 'handling'.
