Hi. I was wondering if anyone has had their tubes clamped as a form of contraception?? I cant use the pill or the implant as i bleed non stop with them. My mum suggested tube clamping because it is reversible. I've been thinking of clamping or the IUD. I have a 21 month old daughter and im due in few days and I really dont want to fall pregnant again for AT LEAST 2-3 years (if we decide to have anothe child that is).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As far as I am aware getting your tubes clamped is just as permanent as getting a tubal ligation (where they cut & "tie" the tubes). Yes it can be reversed but there is no guarantee that you'll be able to have another baby once it's been reversed. Have you thought of an IUD or something along those lines?
I didnt know that... (thanks mum!!! lol) I think ive got a bit of googling to do... I have thought of IUD, ive heard good and bad about them... and then theres the diaphram (sp?). Thanks for telling me that. :)

Maz had her tubes clamped and a reversal was a major operation for her.
I'll ask her to pop in and tell you about it.
Just thought I'd add that my Mum had a diaphram in and fell pregnant with me!!

I had my tubes clamped 4 years ago. It wasnt to bad but afterwards I suffered really bad pulling sensations on my right hand side within months of getting it done.
I had my reversal in october 2005. it was the most painfull thing I had ever gone through. Ive had 3 c/s, appendix out but this op took the cake.
I would highly recommend that you find an ulternative to getting your tubes clamped. It really isnt worth all the pain just for a few years.
And Libby, I fell pregnant 3 times with them clamped too. Its not 100%, nothing ever is.
Libby, have they worked out why you bleed on the pill? I think the pill would be the easiest option in your situation.
Hi Libby, I've had my tubes clamped as well, DON'T DO IT!
I suffered for years with painful AF & a host of other horrific symptoms. Please, don't do it, yes, you can have it reversed but it costs big $$ & there is no guarantee it will be successful. Maybe the pill you are taking isn't strong enough?
I had heaps of problems after my reversal was done, it is not as simple as it sounds, it's major surgery.
Maybe an IUD would be a better option?
I would steer clear of the tubes thing too hun,
I asked for my tubes to be done,, the doctor didnt even ask if i wanted them tied or cut,,,, so when i went into theatre last week for my caesar,, i discovered while they were doing it, that they cut them, cauterized the ends and take peices about an inch long out and send it off,,, so if i ever wanted a reversal, i would say it woud be impossible to rejoin the tubes again. i am a bit down about that as i though a reversal would be an option if we down the track ever decided to give it another go.
Hi. Thanks for all your comments. I've done a lot of googling and i read about the clamping... and i informed my mother on it as well. lol. I have tried a HEAP of different pills and it was always the same, constant bleeding. I tried the implant for 4-5 months and i was bleeding all the time with that so i got it removed last year. (and a month later i found out i was pregnant...) all this trouble started AFTER i had my daughter, before that i was fine, had a spottin every so often but it was fine with the pill. Ive been checked by doctors and gynos and i even had an ultrasound 2 make sure nothing was left in my uterus after giving birth, It was all clear. So now I have been thinking of other different methods of contraception. Leaning more towards the IUD now that I've fully researched everything. Anyhoos enough gasbagging from me, :) lol
Libby sorry this question doesn't really answer your question but I'm just curious. Did any of the doctors ever give you a laparoscopy?
Maybe get a referral to a gynaecologist to discuss getting the IUD. While you're there tell them about your spotting and the problems you have on the pill. I know it might not seem relevant now but it might help you further down the track.

i am another that has had her tubes clamped and reveresed.........the operation to clamp wasnt bad, but the op to reverse, was extremely painful......you a still very young and i would be surprised if any doctors would agree to do the op anyway.i eventually feel pregnant after my revesal but it took me 18 months.......with 3 m/c on the way

I was another who had my tubes clamped, and reversed, but the reversal didn't work for me. There is no gaurantee that the reversal will work. In fact scarring can occur at the clamp site which would then cause a blockage, and if you're unlucky like me and that happens, you won't ever be able to fall pg naturally again, even after the clamps are removed and/or your tubes repaired.
Hi Libby, I had my tubes clamped in 2000, the year after I had to have to left one taken off. They all say it is for good. I have read alot about it, and it would be easyer to have them reversed if u had the clamps or clips. If they cut and tie then it will be harder, there is a 50 to 80% chance to get pregnant after a reversal. But the % goes up if u have the clamp's, because from what I have read about it they say that if u use the clamps then there is more of a tube left, less scare tissue, but if they do it another way there will be less tubes to join together and more scare tissue. But if u are even thinking of having another baby down the track don't have you tube's done. It is a major op and takes up to 5 hrs, so think hard and u might be able to find something else. And they will look at your age as well.. Hope this helps
