Can someone please tell me on average how much a FS costs?
Danni,
I'm going to move this to LTTTC&AC, I think you'll get more responses there.
thanks
Hi danniellabella, my initial consultation with my FS / Gyn (MIVF) was $140 from memory, which was part claimable by Medicare. Subsequent visits were then $75-$95 depending on duration. It can definitely add up when you are seeing them frequently but Medicare does assist.
Perhaps call one close by to yourself to get a price
Good luck
Just looked up my FS's bills and mine are as follows:
$127 initial consult, $65 rebated by Medicare
$54 subsequent consults, $30+ (?) claimable by Medicare (don't know for sure coz I'd hit the safety net threshold by then and was getting something like $52 back)
I wonder if we could be fully covered by medicare coz we are on healthcare card concessession
Danni,
an FS is a specialist, and therefore you will have out of pocket expenses. However, if you or Dh have never had children, you may qualify for fertility treatment through the public system. Inquire with your local women's hospital.
130 intial consult then 90 after this.. major cities seem to be far more expensive... I don't know why, I guess they think city dwellers are more cashed up....leis x
My initial consult was $210 (but I had a pap smear as well), and I now pay $65 per consultation now. I get around $35 back from medicare, but have just hit the threshold so will get about $60 back.
Yes, talking about city dwellers, I am in Sydney, my inital FS cost $321 and medicare rebate about $160...but I know my FS is an expensive one...haven't saved enough money for the subsequent one yet...
Eek! My first appointment was $200, and subsequent consultations were $130, I think. I didn't think it was too bad, as my consultations with my rheumatologist are $100.
All I can say now is ouch!
BW
my initial consult was $120, subsequent visit $70
woo hoo - maybe there ARE advnatages to being a country bumpkin!
My Initial consultation was $120 with subsequent visits $50, we are in Brissy
Sorry I can't really remember. I'll have a look and see if i can find any bills from my last pregnancy. But I was going to recommend a FS in SA if you are interested? She is really reasonable in that she chats to me on the phone for little issues and BT results and posts scripts and BT forms out to me so I don't have to pay for a consultation for every little thing. She works from the Attunga medical centre next to Burnside war memorial hospital and her name is Karen Chandler. She is absolutely fantastic. And she was there at the birth of DS. I've only seen her once since TTC#2 and I'm on cycle #7. Yes, I'll be popping in to introduce myself in the 6+months TTC group soon!
Howdy!
I am in SYdney too and my initial appt was $300 and then subsequent ones are $160.
But with the latest bill of $160 I get to claim it in Medicare and they accept the Medicare cheque as payment :) SO that is great....especially considering we went last night and have to go back again next week.
My FS is great too in that we chat over the phone and he mails me scripts and BTs.
I'm sure my FS has me on speed dial as well :) He was my ob too eventually so I was with him over 2 years in total.
And looking at everyone's posts, I see he was incredibly reasonable too!
For the initial consult my FS was $180.00 - got $63.00 back from medicare.
Follow-ups are $85.00 and i get $31.60 back from medicare, but i have hit the threshold so i guess it will be more now.
I really love my FS and he is the best bucks we ever spent :)
BG - another advantage of being a bumpkin - I bet you don't have to pay $10 for parking when you visit the FS too!!
Good luck danniellabella
We paid roughly $123.00 for the initial visit and $62.30 for all follow ups, getting about $32 back from Medicare as we havent hit the threshold yet.
