Rice is fine.
You may not want egg fried rice, as there's a small salmonella risk, and you may not want the prawns or sushi, but plain rice is fine.
Or at least I hope it is, I've never seen it on a banned list and I ate it quite a bit!
(Not a dense question, there are no such things as silly questions, only people giving silly answers or being patronising, which is their problem, not yours.)

thanks.
so all the other chinese stuff in fine as long as its cooked???
i wont eat the eggs.
they give you like pork and crrayfish dumplings that have been steamed are they ok?

Your question isnt dense at all - I had no idea early on either. Rice is fine, if you are eating any take away you just want it to be as fresh as possible- so if you know your friends own it you should be fine. I would steer clear of seafood early on though.
As far as books go - I would recommend Up the Duff for great info and a lighthearted read, and What to Expect when you are expecting - which is kind of a bible of info on everything. My copy was a double with What to Eat When you are Expecting but I have to say I havent read much of that - just the what not to!! Heres a quick list for you too!!
No: soft or blue cheese (brie.camembert), pates, shellfish, deli meats and salads (you dont know how long they have been sitting) raw meat and eggs (cooked are fine) and liver. Basically anything fresh is fine and anything heated to over 75 degrees(hot!!) is fine as it kills listeria.
Gosh sorry about that, hope its not info overload - and good luck!!

no thats great exaclty what i needed so i can go out and eat pizza and normal food as long as its HOT and COOKED ;)
and most of all fresh..
what about salads at restaurants - me being me alwasy askt to make sure its washed properly thats a good thing for chemicals and thing right?
-
Washed salads are OK, but many salad sauces have raw eggs in, so you have to watch out there. *Sigh* so many rules! I really wanted eggs whilst preggers too, so had to be so strict with cooking them.

Lisa, Chinese foods are okay to eat as long as they don't use MSG in their cooking to enhance the flavor. I was told by my GP and Ob that rice is excellent source of folate/fiber for the body. Also, it's okay to eat fried rice (which has eggs) as the eggs are cooked before adding them to the rice. Eggs are okay to eat during pregnancy as long as it's not raw which contain risk of listeria. Just remember, the key is to eat food that are cleaned, cooked, and fresh!

It's funny how people mention MSG when it comes to chinese cooking... Most packet things you buy in the supermarket contain MSG! That's never mentioned...
