Hi.
I have had one at 41weeks, but it wasn't something I asked or was prepared for.
I found it quite uncomfortable, but it didn't hurt. There was a bit of yuckiness the next day. Not sure how well it moved things along though, as I was induced about 36 hours later. (only 1 lot of gels for the induction though, nothing else needed. whether it was the membrane sweep or the indiction or things just happening I'll never know)
I had several S and S's with Tehya. None of them did anything for me though.
My SIL however, went in and had her's done at 40 weeks, after the appt I took her out to have a really intense session of acupuncture and she went into labour early hours that morning. If you can, get yourself some labour inducing acupuncture. I truely do believe that having the 2 sure did help. Oh, that and the threaten of induction.
i had one done at 39 weeks with no luck, then i had one done at 40+3 and DD was born less than 48 hrs later. don't know if it was s&s, or dtd the night before, both or just DD was ready. i didn't find it uncomfortable or painful.
I had one at 40wks 8 days at about 2:30pm and Caleb was born at 11:02pm that night.
Didn't hurt but did feel a bit uncomfortable.
Thanks ladies - well I had one done - very uncomfortable but will see what happens now probably not much coz bubs head is up high and my cervix isnt ripe or low, and am being induced on Friday with a possible elective c/s if head isnt any lower by Friday...gggrrrr why wont my body do what its meant to! Thanks again!!
All the best.. hope bub hurry's for u and comes b4 friday!!
Tan, just because bubs head is high it does not mean that you will need a c section. Alot of babies don't actually engage until labour begins. Don't be pressured into unnecessary intervention.
SIL's baby actually never engaged. All it meant was a few extra pushes. He came out just fine. Although we did have whinging and pressure from the midwife and Ob.
I had one on the monday & doc said bubs head was high and my cervix wasnt ripe so they booked me in for induction friday! i had pains from wednseday & when i got to the hospital friday i was already 3cms:) goodluck & i hope bubs moves down before friday
I had one done this morning, I am 40 weeks today!
OB said that my cervix was 2cm dialated and bubs is fully engaged (has been for 5 weeks). Got home and have had bleeding, and some period like pains on and off.
HOpe this is it for me! Can't wait to meet my little one!
OH yay Beck. Can you get yourself in for some acupuncture this afternoon ?
Might be the extra push to get those contractions started.
Good luck :D
On the high head thing, a few midwives have told me that there is a study and around 70% of women, first time mothers included, their babies don't engage until labour. They are trying to track down this study for me but I have heard an awful lot of stories where this was the case and labours all went fine - no probs with size of baby or pelvis or anything else.
Hi Trish, thanx for your good luck wishes!
Ive never had acupuncture, so probably not. I just got back from the shopping centre, so have done a bit of walking, hope that helps.
Thought I should mention that Tan had her bub on Saturday Morning and she did have a C Section, not sure if it was attributed to bubs not being engaged or a prolonged labour, waiting to hear from her.
Another thing that was mentioned to me about first time mums having high babies was that it was common that those babies are posterior. So doing that optimal fetal positioning is especially important...
Sorry Tan for hijacking your thred!
Well after my S & S yesterday I woke this morning at 3am with period pains, then at 5am got some pretty painful contrax, but after about 7am they just vanished :(
I am still getting very strong and at times painful BH and it is painful to walk and a bit of bleeding (brown blood, sorry if tMI).
So not sure if I am in early labour or false labour or what?
So confusing
Anyone else had these symtoms?
Beck, I would say that the bleeding is from your cervix thinning out. So yes, something is obviously happening, and dare I say it, you may actually be in the early stages of labour.
Maybe you want to get started on some nipple stim to help encourage these contractions if acupuncture isn't your thing. Oh BTW, I have never tried it either until I was preg with Tehya. It doesn't hurt at all either :D
LOL Trish! I would have to slather myself in Emla gel! I am such a needle phobic, I have 2 patches already in my labour bag just in case the hossy doesn't have Emla!
DH stayed home with me today but is totally freaked out about DTD :cryinglaugh: probably thinks bubs might fall out or something (I wish). But we have been for a few laps around the block, which is quite painful for me. The tightenings are sooo strong.
Just sitting around waiting now....
BTW - The OB put CX: 1/2 on my card. I am assuming this means effacement/dialation. On my first visit he put CX: 3/0.
Thanx for all your help Trish
YAY thats great hun. Oh you poor thing on the needle front. I must say as much as I don't like them, as long as they aren't near my mouth I'm ok.
Typical male too, always after abit, but if it looks like it might help you out in anyway, they don't want anything to do with it. HEHE. Just tell him he will be sorry in a few weeks time, He will have 2 months to wait for some action!! Might get him into it for you ;)
Oh, forgot to say, sounds likeyour cervix is well on its way. Happy dance for you hun :D
