sinus is my main pg symptom and it stays with me till 28 weeks well did with Jack :hugs: sucks doens't it and you can't take any of the standard treastments
I have it too, feels like forever. I have to sleep sitting up some nights between sinus and heartburn :(
I dont have it as bad as you ladies (Maybe its something ive got to look forward to, just like my recent discovery of heartburn!!) but i notice that my nose gets blocked waay more often and i have regular blood noses...which are usually a rare thing for me! :)
it's definatly pregnancy related i've had it for the last 4 weeks and it's painful constantly i get headaches from being so stuffy.
I have found that drinking warm lemon honey and ginger helps releive it for a little while and putting my head over a steamy bowl of hot water gives me some help. anything is worth a try :)
Nasal congestion is definitely a pregnancy thing, I had it quite bad in teh first trimester. Try a saline nasal spray like Fess, it gave me a lot of relief.
I didn;t suffer from it with my pregnancy with Olivia (I was in Darwin.......the humidity aleviated it perhaps?) buit suffered terribly with stuffy nasal congestion all through my pregnancies with Charlie and Lexie.
My OB gave me a nasal spray called Octravin. It is brilliant stuff and cleared the nose in seconds and gave me much needed sleep........
I think it needs to be prescribed by a Dr if you are pg.........
I get nasal congestion too since week 13. My nose are always stuffy and makes me feel like I need to get some extra grasp of air in order to sleep properly. I remember, some nights, I had to use Vicks VapoRub to allow breathing easier.
Yep i have it too!!
I have had it for the past two months, i sneeze all day, i am constantly blowing my nose (ew) and occasionally they'll be bloody. But yeah, i can't breathe most of the time! And i have a lot of headaches too! FUN!!! But worth it.... :D
Yep and hayfever I've never had hayfever before it's not nice. You can take Claratyne said my dr for hayfever related snuffling
I'm using a nasal spray (once in each nostril) just before I go to bed each night to clear my nose otherwise I can't sleep if I can't breathe easily...Dimetapp 12 hour...I suppose I should check with my GP about whether I can use it or not....I used something similar with #1 without any ill effects.
Oh so many things I'm reading that I have to look forward to...lol
LOL  SaraJane!!
I was going to start a thread about sinus, but then found this one! It's like someone is physically holding my nose shut and i just can't breathe unless its through my mouth... no matter what i do!! I've tried saline nasal sprays, vicks inhalers, lemsip and blowing my nose..... nothing!!!
But i still think its all worth it! :D
I normally suffer bad with sinus problems. Last year my sinuses were so badly blocked I started to get migraines from it. That resulted in shots of morphine for the pain.
My sinuses are playing up something shocking atm and I am so scared of it all happening again. I blow my nose constantly, trying to relieve the pressure, nothing works for me. The inhalations, the nasal sprays, nothing. It truely does suck.
And to think, the most of us will be going through spring still pregnant too. Or atleast the start of it.
Yep, I suffered terribly when pg with #1.. slept every night with a cold washer draped over my nose & eyes. I didn't have congestion.. just PAIN. Frustrating thing was I knew all I needed was nurofen for the inflammation, and I couldn't take it! Panadeine did nothing :(
I was dreading it happening again this time.. I am getting sinus headaches, but not as bad, and panadol is keeping it at bay so far. My GP looked up Rhinocort for me, it's safe to use in pg (category A) so I've tried that a bit (in case it's allergies) It may have worked.. but I'm reluctant to keep using it.
I've read that with the increase in blood volume in pg it can cause sinus pain and blood nose. Dunno about actual congestion tho.
Fess is ok to use, its just a saline spray, can help flush out nasties out of the sinuses.
Hope everyone finds some relief soon!
Both pregnancies so far I have had no nose. Ive been using the spray Octivan when Im so tired and need a bit of sleep. Ahhhh Breathing through your nose is over-rated anyway.
Liz - Will try that Rhinocort
Me too!! My nose is constantly blocked! Which is going to be fun as I'm flying today!!Otravin is fine to take in pregnancy, but you aren't supposed to use it more than five days in a row (as it can effect the lining of your nose). My nose was constantly blocked a few weeks ago, then I used Rhinocort twice a day and it cleared up. It's now come back (perhaps as I stopped using rhinocort) I hate having a blocked nose!
Hi there,
Sinus symptoms/problems sometimes happen when you are pregnant.
My advice would be to ask your GP for a referral to an ENT(Ear Nost & Throat Surgeon)
if your symptoms get unbearable and see if there is anything that can be done safely whilst pregnant. Otherwise you may get advice on what treatment you can have before
your next pregnancy.
Best of Luck.
