Low AFI (Amniotic Fluid) 34.3 weeks

I am hoping someone can help me.

I have had two growth scans over the last two weeks for concerns regarding our babies brain but thankfully got the all clear yesterday however their is concern that my AFI fluid levels are low.

At 32 weeks they measured 8
Yesterday at 34.3 weeks they measured 6.

I am booked for another scan on the 30/5 to check the levels but i am wondering if they are still low what can this mean for my labour/delivery, the rest of my pregnancy and for our baby?

Thanks in advance for your help with my concern. I am feeling very anxious with the unknown.

Mine measured 6 at 31w6days and I was told it was normal.

I had very low levels of fluid from 19wks (as I'd sprung a leak in the amniotic sac and continued to leak for a further four weeks) and then had a total rupture of the sac at 23wks. In spite of having no sac to protect him and contain the amniotic fluid Gus remained in utero until 29wks when I went in to spontaneous labour. I know the fetal med specialists kept talking about it being a balancing act between where Gus was "safest" at any given point in time. At the gestation it was happening to me Gus was to young to be born (safely), so was definitely better off remaining in the uterus in spite of the situation. Not sure how the advice would have differed if I had been further into the pregnancy.

I think they only worry if it goes below 5. Mine kept going up and down when i was pg with Eleanor.
The levels can change all the time so it may be higher when you go back.

I had my scan done by one of the best ob/gyns in the state, and he said my AFI levels were within normal ranges...so I personally wouldn't be worrying about that level at 34 weeks. Levels naturally drop anyway as you approach end of pregnancy and like Michelle read, I'm pretty sure they only worry when it goes below 5. It sounds normal from my situtation and what I've read...so I really hope this is the case for you. I'd ask your OB for some answers on this too, if it will affect your baby, labour and delivery.

Tara is right they do start to drop of towards the end of your pregnancy.
