we have a rice cooker/steamer set up - i don't think we'd get enough use out of a straight steamer - but having the versatility of both functions means it gets used a fair bit - i'd say we use it on average once a week over warmer months, 3 or four times coder weather - but it's definitely only because it's the multi function set up!
good luck making your decision
I got a 3 tier steamer for mothers day and I love it. Vegies are so much nicer steamed. We have also cooked fish and chicken breasts in it so far, and both came out delicious.
I just bought a 2 tiered steamer/rice cooker yesterday from Woolies. It only cost $40, but i think i'm going to love it!! I always used to boil just about every nutrient out of our vegetables, and the ones we had last night and tonight were delicious! (and not as soggy as we usually have them lol.)
Thanks for the input - the one we are looking at is from the Good Guys and has 3 steam baskets and 1.1 litre rice bowl - so I guess I might be purchasing it this weekend. We eat heaps of vegies and loooove rice.
Ooooo I love to shop!!!
Ursula and Brooke, what steamer is that? I just have the saucepan type one on the stove, but want to get something electric.
Rayray it is called the Tefal Steamer $99 at The Good Guys the advert says it has vitamin plus booster (?), starts steaming within 15 secs, 3 steam baskets and 1.1 litre capacity rice bowl. It is electric and stands on your kitchen bench. I will be purchasing mine this weekend.
Oooh that sounds cool, might have to ponder getting myself one of those :D
I have one and LOVE IT!!! Cause it has the multi function of doing the vege's and rice and cause DH doesnt like rice and I come from a family with a asian back ground I was brought up on rice and can just do a small serving for myself without making a major mess!!
