What is the BIGGEST mistake you have ever made?

As a new mother we all know that doing anything with your new baby is a REAL challenge.

I was literally scared to leave the house with DS as I was afraid that I was in the spotlight as a new mother, that he would cry in public and interrupt the peace and just be a general inconvenience to others. While worrying about these things (which, by the way I could care less about now), I was proud as punch of my beautiful little boy. I did, however, make one huge error that cost me a load of hassle - I didn't take DS's nappy bag out with me.

Yep, he was two weeks old and a miniscule little thing. I thought I would put one nappy in my hand bag with a little packet of wipes and seeing as we (my husband and I) were only going food shopping, that is all I would need. I had him in a sling and one of my friends was looking in the sling when next thing I know I am overcome by this VERY warm fuzzy feeling!! He had peed out of his nappy, through the leg of his grow suit and straight on to the front of my shirt.

He was drenched - I didn't have a change of clothes!!! He realised he was soaked and started screaming. I nipped in to Target bought a little suit for $5 and then ticked in to the change rooms and thanfully changed him. He still cried and cried - just for the sake of it at that point. My husband finished the shopping and we went home. I was a basket case and I cried all the way home because I felt so stupid.

I live in a small town and was given advice by the people behind the counter, "Eve, don't EVER go out without your nappy bag!" VERY pertininent information.

NEVER GO OUT WITHOUT YOUR NAPPY BAG............:doh: They didn't tell me that...... what a brazen fool for even thinking that I could commit such an act.

Has anyone else done anything that's made you go d'oh?

My biggest mistake (so far im sure) is when i was flying to my mums and i had packed a new jar or formula and empty bottles....BUT i thought i also packed a bottle with water JIC somethign was to happen... wel it did... i touched down in Canberra... we were driving to her place and we hit a huge accident. Traffic stopped and goin no where, DD was in the back screaming for food.. i couldnt calm her...mum said give her a BF.. would ahve been good if i had some milk!! After 1 hr in the jam we all got diverted and i had no choice but to pull into a servo and buy a bottle of water and give her a small feed to tie her over til we got home.

I felt so bad... so now i never leave home with out a bottle and formula.

The best advice for little boys? "Watch the willie!!" Where is it pointing when you put in that nappy - you'll pay dearly if said willie is even slightly off centre.

Oh yeh I've been caught with my neice before I had kids and she pooed EVERYWHERE~!! It was horrible....I'm surprised I had kids after that experience!LOL But with my girls i've done everything from forgetting the nappy bad, forgetting a bottle and change of clothes...luckily I haven't been pooed on in public again! I must say I can relate to not wanting to take my first born out alot as I was terrifed that she would cry. Oh the worst with my girls would be with Jasmine when just recently she just kept farting!And it was soooo loud people were staring at me. I was mortified that they thought it might have been me!PMSL!

Yes, Daniel has actually peed on his forehead. I really don't know how, but he did it. Pretty tricky if you ask me - I'd have a time trying it.

Two thing:

1) Mixed the Milton solution for sterilising bottles TOO STRONG! This went on for about a week before I noticed! Thank GOD it didn't do any damage to poor DD! Boy did I beat myself up over that one!

2) After the Milton thing I made DH buy me a microwave steriliser. All went well... until the day I forgot to add the water to the steriliser!!!!!!!! :wall: Needless to say - no more steriliser and no more bottles! Ended up in a mercy dash to the shops to buy a new (bench top ;) ) steriliser and a heap of new bottles! Luckily I had a bottle made up in the fridge so DD was ok for one feed whilst I organised myself!!!

the only d'oh thing i can think of is when i lose count of how many spoons of formula i have put in a bottle when making it. i have to throw it all out and start again.

We went out without any nappies in the nappy bag once, I was SO embarrased, Dh and I were bot out together, we had just stopped to change dd before we started our grocery shopping and I had taken her old nappy off, and gone to go another out of the bag and there none. Luckily there was another lady in the parents room with a little girl and she took pity on me and gave me one, but I was just so embarrased.

Mitch held Caty up to smell her nappy and was standing in a doorway so of course Caty's head went 'clunk' and she screamed blue murder. That was last week. Poor Mitch felt so bad but I must say it was nice being able to take over and put her on the bb to calm her down.

Yesterday I realised I'd been putting half the recommended bmilk into her rice cereal making it quite thick...which probably explains why she's been crying for the last few nights (we started solids last Sunday).

thought that my children would have good manners and be the type of kids everyone loved

I have done so many things but the stupidest was trying to give a bottle to DD who was a bad feeder to start with whilst visiting a GF in hospital ( she had just had a bub) I could not get her to settle at all and finally after I said "look I have to go" I realised that the bottle still had the cap on as well as the teat so nothing was getting thru. Its amazing how settled she became when the milked flowed freely.

The biggest mistake I made was thinking that everything the health nurses said was right! All babies are different and just because mine didn't fit on their perfect little line didn't mean there was a single thing wrong with him!

Had to take DH to the hospital one day. We took the nappy bag and all with a change of clothes for DD. Just as the dr was about to examine my DH, DD did a big poo that leaked through her nappy and clothes and onto me as I was holding her - I didn't have a change of clothes for me! I had to clean her up then put DHs t-shirt on as he had hospital gown on, then he wore his windcheater home. The silliest part of it (that I realised just now), is I still don't carry a change of clothes for me in the car!!

Well i did something so silly but i think it has a touch of loser genes attached to it!
My husband and i went away with his family for the long weekend in January, we were having a great time when it came to feeding Josh his bottle to go to sleep as he was so cranky... i grabbed the bottle out of the bag and realised that i had left his formula tin at home (1 hour away). My immediate reaction was "ahh dont worry we will just buy another one" ....easier said than done on a public holiday! We were driving around everywhere as we were not familiar with the area and most places were either out of stock or didnt hold NANHA1. But YES we finially found a place that stocked it about 1 and a 1/2 hours later! OPPS!

one day at the shops i couldnt think of why ds was screaming his head off... he was rolling around in the pram and everyone was looking and wisphering about me ....

i was in the line at target and there was a massive sale on so the line was huge ... after paying i went to feed him in the mums room, i picked him up to give him a big hug ...

he was warm, sticky and stinky...... the biggest poop he'd ever done was all up his back all over the pram,everywhere....

i had no clothes for him so i had to wash him off , put him in a nappy ... walk back to target ... buy him something and a blanket to cover the poop in the pram....

so i walked around for the rest of the day with eau d poopie wafting around !!!
