Monster baby??
My first guestimate due date was the 27th october, my confirmed was the 23rd, at 12week scan it was adjusted to the 19th and now they reackon bubs is over 19 weeks taking my due date to the 12th. Does this mean I'm going to be pushing out a 10lb baby??? lol

My scans have always changed my EDD, but my hospital is still going by the first date we were given. Apparently because it allows them more time before i go overdue.... which scares the hell out of me because it also gives the baby more time to grow.
Sorry prob didnt really answer your question.
Good Luck,
Prue

I have had a similar thing, doctor gave me date of 14th October which was confirmed at 6 week scan, then at nuchal scan it was 4 days bigger than that date, and at 19 week scan its now 8 days bigger......I am panicking a bit too as I dont want a big baby! I am very careful with my diet so i know its not overeating thats doing it. The scanner lady said it might be because my cycle was shorter than the average, but I still dont think that would contribute to that much difference. I am hoping my doctor will adjust my due date when I see him on Friday! Sorry i am not much help, but am interested to see if anyone else comes up with any thoughts for you :0)

My OB never changed my due date bacuase of a hospital scan, but then we knew when we'd conceived to within a couple of days.
I had a scan at 36weeks which put my due date at 26/10/05. My actual EDD was 11/11/05, and DS was induced on 20/11/05.
At this time the radiographer said that ultrasounds are really not the best for estimating how big a baby will be, they very often overstate things.
DS was a heavy baby, but more becaude he was long, and a week and a half overdue. he wasn't a chubby bub.

I hope I don't go overdue I'm worried enough as it is if it doesn't arrive by the 19th i think i will cry lol

I think from my own experience the nuchal fold 12 weeks scan is most accurate I beleive

With Chelsea my EDD was 3/12....my scan at 22 weeks said 29/11.....she was born 29/11 :)

CelticMoon, don't worry. These scans can be so inaccurate for guessing weight & date, even when done by the BEST people. My DD was born 7 weeks early. A scan done 12 hours before she was born estimated her weight at 2400g. She was 1800g (4 lb)!
The early scans, 12 weeks or earlier, are better for estimating the date. That is because babies grow at very much the same rate during the first trimester. If this is your first baby, don't worry too much about your guesstimate date. I'd go by the confirmed or the 12 week scan, which are close to each other anyway.

hi celtic moon (i just cant call you CM ha ha!) - i wouldnt worry too much, have been told to go with the date from earliest scan and also that as time goes on u/sound measurements can be plus or minus 2 weeks... i'd stick withthe 1st date you had... good luck!

lol yes i didnt realise when i joined the abbreviation for cervical mucus would be CM lol. Thanks for the info we have massive babies and small babies in our families I was just praying mother nature was going to be nice to me lol I guess if my lil aunty can psh out a 10lb boy and is half the size of me i can do it too if worse comes to worse lol

If you have your scan before 10 weeks the accuracy is +/- 1 week.
If you have your scan between 10 weeks and about 12 weeks the accuracy is +/- 10 days.
If you have your scan later than this then the acuracy is +/- 2 weeks or greater
