A girl at my work has just found out she has chicken pox.
I had it once when I was about 12 and only a mild case. I am now 25 weeks pregnant. I spoke with the midwife and she thought it should be ok.
Does anyone know if I should do anything?

Hey when i was Pregnant my neice and nephew had the chicken pox, i had them when i was younger, the doctor said i would be fine if i was immune to them so he got me to do a blood test and i was immune to them so i could be around them.
i would get a blood test just to make sure u are immune.
My husband has shingles (same virus) when I was 6 weeks. I had to have the immunity test. If you are immune you'll be fine. I think it's only a real problem in early pregnancy.
Good Luck.
After 20wks I understand that it is OK for the bub, but it is potentially dangerous to have chicken pox in late pregnancy, close to the time of birth.
My DD got chicken pox when I was 36wks pregnant with DS2. I had never had them and went up to the hospital to be tested for immunity. No one believed that I could be in my thirties and not be immune to chicken pox! The health dept recommends an injection of immunoglobulin to pregnant women who are close to birth who have been exposed to chicken pox and this needs to be administered within 96 hours of the exposure. Trouble is, my blood was taken for testing on Friday afternoon and the results were not known until the following Wednesday, despite me phoning twice a day to ask for them. Finally someone in charge of infectious diseases at the hospital was informed about my case and she chased them up for me and arranged the immunoglobulin. I went into labour 2 days later (at 37.5wks).
DS2 was perfectly healthy, although I believe that it was the chicken pox virus which probably brought labour on early as my DD and DS1 had both gone to 40 wks. Anyway, I did end up with chicken pox 5 days after the birth, as did DS1. DS2 was also given immunoglobulin but came down with them at 17 days and was admitted to hospital for antiviral meds via IV for a week.
The hospital I went to has now changed it's policy so that any pregnant woman presenting with chicken pox exposure after 36wks will be given the immunoglobulin immediately without waiting for the immunity test.
All that being said, if you have had the chicken pox in the past, it is very likely that you are immune.
