Hi emz
I got a home kit from my dentist (i think it was called nitewhite) and was about $400. I did it every 2 days for about 2-3 weeks with the moulds that they make for you at the dentist (to perfectly fit your teeth).
And there was a huge difference!. I want to touch up but waiting until bub is born because it makes your teeth sensitive and if you oversupply in the mould so it is on your gum can irritate them a little.
Never had the zoom etc but my dentist suggested this way was better for results and cheaper.
Would do it again
In saying that DH bought a cheapy one off ebay like $20 and it was fierce!!! You coould only keep it on for 20minutes (mine you wore over night as you slept) and it worked too..
so who knows!

I had the laser whitening done at my dentist for $550. It has been 13 months since I had mine and it still looks great. My dentist said that people tend to get it done every year. The only problem I had with it was the pain. My teeth are super sensitive and when it came to the last application of gel and the laser it was very painful. I got shooting pains in my teeth and up into the gums for about 4 days after and had to be a bit careful with hot and cold stuff, but they are fine now.
I highly recommend it and have tried some of the home whitening kits, but never got a result as good.

Yeah i use the one from the dentist in the personal mould that is made for you. Since i have private health insurance the mould was free (which is usually the most expensive part - the inital cost set up) and i do it every 6 months and get the gel from the dentist for $20(again because of private health insurance) and leave it in everynight, overnight for a week - and there is a major difference even after the first application.
ETA - The stuff you get from the dentist is different and much stronger then stuff you get from a pharmacy or supermarket.

I think it depends on the severity of staining. My teeth are naturally quite white as I dont drink coffee or red wine but DH's are pretty stained as he has about 4-5 coffees a day. We both used the ones you get from Woolworths for about $30. It worked on me but not DH.
