eczema
Hi , DS(9mnths) has a bad case of eczema on his face, very noticeable.. My RE Sugg to cut out all dairy productis first, so i have been avoiding yogurt, cheese etc, also she mentioned to go to a soy formula, which i am yet to try.. he is on Nan2. Also i dont wash him in any fragrance soaps etc, and its only on his face, i use delicate soap powder for his clothes washing, any suggestions??

I used QV when my sons had it.. They only had it mild though.
I used it in the bath and as a moisturiser

I did not use any of the baby non-soap products in DS/ bath until very recently, and he's 18months now.
He had what I considered a bad case of eczema at 4 months *while exclusively b/f). I tried every natural remedy I could before getting a referral to the paed, who prescribed elocon (steroid creme but I think not cortisone)
It was gone in 3 days. Sometimes he has a bit every now and then, but it has never been as bad as that first episode.
I also use QV balm on his skin as it tends to be dry, especially his legs.
Not sure on the food allergies, but I know that soy allergies are pretty common as well as dairy.

Ta Ray, i may get some QV for the skin, as it is sooooo dry..

Hi Maggie,
My 15 month old son suffers with severe eczema which is dairy and also weather related. Meaning when I first put him onto formula at 12 weeks as I was comp feeding him he broke out in eczema. That particular formula was just the standard NAN. However last winter and its happening again now, his skin had dried right out and of course his eczema is back. But thankfully I have it under control as I'm using PURE apricot oil in his bath water and nothing else, washing his clothing in Amolin Baby Clothes Wash and moisturising his skin with Parrifin Cream (unscented). If your little one is grubby you can use the aqueous cream as a wash. I have also found that products with Propolyene Gylcol flair up the condition so probably best to avoid anything with that in it. Check your wipes as all brands excluding huggies contain it and it will make the eczema worse on the face.
Good luck

My DD had horrendous eczema that nothing could help.
Then a skin swab came up positive for staph bacteria. We were given Dermol lotion and bath emollient..it has antiseptic in it..not sure if you can get it there though, but there should be something similar.
Now you would hardly even know she had eczema.
Bandage garments worn over a thick layer of emollient all the time also really helped her!
But I have just realised you said its only on her face!
We were given stronger steroids just to use for a short while to keep it in check then could move down to hydrocortisone. and her face has settled and stayed mostly clear!

Maggie, my DD had bad eczema from birth. After taking her to a paediatric allergy specialist, she has allergies to milk products and egg. But he said that the allergy and eczema are treated as seperate issues. He gave me two different creams, one called Elidel (non cortisone) and ther other Elicon (cortisone). After only a few days of using the Elicon cream, it totally cleared up! It was a miracle. The elidel is then used for any flareups, which there haven't been many at all. Some babies can have an allergy to soy, so its best they be tested before starting a soy based formula. My DD is on NAN HA 2, and can tolerate this formula due the enzyme present in it that breaks down the milk protein. Maybe talk to you Health Nurse or GP about the creams as I know if they have it present on their face the cream is cheaper (silly, not sure why?). I use Planet Ark powder for washing her clothes and only bath her in water, no other products. Moisturise with a good sorbolene. Hope you find something to ease your DS discomfort, its a horrible thing for them to go through. I have been absolutely amazed at my DD's progress. Good luck with it. :)
