induction?

Ok, sorry me again! well I made a post a few days ago asking about induction because of back pain. My last ob appoinment was with a different ob and she wasn't much help, but I had my normal ob back today and he said he will be able to work something out but to wait til 38 weeks and they will assess it then and basically incuce me if it't not any better. Then he got me thinking when he said if the induction fails they will wait again til my due date. Now I never knew that an induction could fail :redface: so at 38 weeks would the chances of the induction working be good? Sorry I have no idea about this stuff but I;m so relieved there may be an end to all this back pain. Thanks so much :)

i think with inductions, there is the chance that it wont work. From what we where told at antenatel classes, they try the gel first, if that doesnt work, then the drip, and if that doesnt work, either a c/s or you go home. But, the midwife was reasonably confident that gel or drip should have thing moving.
I am not sure if using RLT or EPO will help the gel to work more - so, would be interested as well to hear other peoples responses, as well as to how the use of EPO & RLT affects the effectiveness of the gel.

Yup they can fail if your body isnt ready to labour. They can put artificial hormones into your body, but your uterus also needs receptors to make it all work. When your body is ready to labour, it will have receptors galore ;) If you have a failed induction with synto (drip) the next step is usually a caesarean.

Yep my SIL had a failed induction, drip up to the highest it would go and no contractions at all ZIP! She had a Caesar.

Yes inductions can and do fail. If they do usually you will go for a C/S

i asked my Obs about being induced, and he said NO. I was always under the impression that he would be all for it, for scheduling reasons, and being private patient and all. He asked me why, and i told him why i wanted it - (cause he is going away, and i want him to deliver the baby) and he said that at my 39week check, he will see if he thinks my 'bits' are ready to go, and if so, will discuss it with me further, and if not ready, then he wont do it. Says its to much pain / mental type anxiety (cant remember exact what he said) for the mum and baby, and he doesnt like to do them if he doesnt have to. So, he got a gold star from me for his attitude.

Renee sorry to hear your back pain is so severe. I whinge about having sore hips, but sounds like your is no good.
Mum2Bee, My OBS is exactly the same. I wanted him to do an internal on Wednesday (I was 39 wks & 5 days) and he said no. I told him that I had tried to find my cervix to see if it was dilated and he told me that he doesn't go looking for cervixes until past edd! He also won't induce unless for medical reasons. We talked about the process of induction, what happens but he won't induce until necessary and until the cervix is 'ready'. I too give him a gold star!
