Just have a few questions

Hi Everyone

Just had a few questions,went to see my doctor Monday,my first appointment after finding out my BT was +ve (yay!).Anyway she answered most of my question but what Im most concerned about was getting sharp pains.I explained that the pain was almost "stitch" like,just every now and then and not really painful.I've had no bleeding and morning sickness and sore bb is still there.She explained that it was nothing to worry about only the uterus stretching and placenta forming.I just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same syptoms and/or if this is the correct explanation?

Also,I was hopping to have an u/s this week to mostly put my mind at ease and hopefully hear a heartbeat.My doctor said it wasnt really nessasary if there were no complications and I was best to wait till 12wks.It seems like alot of women are having u/s earlier,should I insit to have an earlier u/s to? I was also concerned with eptopic pg but was told I would proberly know by now if that was the case and the pain would be very intense and not go away?

Yes your pains are normal and caused by things stretching.
Personally I would advise you to wait until 12 weeks until you have your US. As yet US has not been proven safe for baby's. In the past they used to x-ray you to check on your pregnancy, but that was before they knew the harm that x-reys can do. US doe have it's place but I don't think it should be done too often

Yes, cramping like period pains is normal, most women report this at some stage. I had no bleeding, next to no M/S (four times in pregnancy, only twice in the morning), slightly tender breasts, but I put that down to hitting them to see if they were tender.

I had a dating scan at 9w (due to irregular cycles and me finding out I was pg at 8w along) and we did see a heartbeat, but much before 10w is a bit hit-and-miss with what you see. Plus at 9w it's just a blob with a flutter that you're told is a heart; at 12w you can see a head and a tail-end and tiny stubby limbs. So much more exciting! But if you want to insist on a scan then do so - for us, it was good to reassure us that it was a baby and not a brain tumour messing with my hormone profile!

You can insist on an u/s if that would put your mind at ease (especially if you are a private patient) . My obst. did an "in house" one on his little machine so I could see the baby at about 8 or 9 weeks, and I'm sure you can hear the heartbeat at 8 weeks but I could be wrong.

My first preg. I had similar sharp pains which were the uterus expanding etc. But only sporadically.Mention it again to your doctor if you are worried or get a second opinion if possible. You are allowed to be as worried as you want, and ask as many questions as you want. You could always go to a public hospital and say you are worried, they often do an ultrasound to confirm things...but maybe not these days... I'm sure it's fine, but you keep seeking the reassurance you need! Good luck.

Ness I didn't get sharp pangs, but it seemed like a lot of others were talking about those pangs, so it's pretty normal. I felt 'something' but not pangs, and it's been awhile so I can't really remember what it felt like :p

As for the u/s, I think that lots of people wait til 12 weeks. Before then is usually for dating if someone's unsure when they fell pregnant or if there's been previous troubles with pregnancy. (I'm sure there are other reasons for early u/s, but of those I know, they're the two common reasons)

Have fun whatever you decide, I loved my 12 week scan, it's a really special thing :)

I had major pains in my first pgncy - thought i was dying and was going to race up to the hospital (didn't know i was pgnt). They later told me this is normal. With my first 2 babies i dind't have ultrasounds until 12w which was routine for the hospital. I guess it depends on circumstance (previous losses, ectopic pgncy etc) and your carer whether you have an ultrasound earlier.

Ness, congratulations on your pregnancy! I also those stitch like pains too, and they only lasted about a week or two for me.

i had those stitch like pains as well. welcome to the world of pregnancy :)
I had an u/s done at 5weeks due to bleeding, and again, at my first obs appointment at i think 9 weeks, where we could see the heart beat.
Whos your obs? & What hossi are you going to?

Thanks mum2bee,I am going to go to Osbourne Park(been meaning to get private health and never got around to it :rolleyes:) I have a few friends that have gone there and they have all been very happy.As far as ob's go I have no idea,dont think I get to choose if I'm not private? I have decided to to 'share care' with my doctor who's at Grand Prom Medical Centre in Scarborough.If you have any advice in this area I'd love to hear it :)

Hi Ness, we have the same EDD and I also live in Perth.
I had AF type cramps at week 3 and weeks 6. At the time I didn't know I was PG, fist time I got AF type bleed second time thought I was Ov'ing. I calculating in EDD from when I stopped pill and on BT results. I was offered a dating U/S but have declined. I see OB next week and have been told she will do a little in house U/S but official U/S will be booked for 12 weeks.
I also feel good, no m/s etc... I have sore BB and feel tired occasionally. I'm not complaining too loudly, but I sometimes wish I felt more PG.
My OB also practices at Osborne Park and Glengarry Private (which is closer to home).
I hope you have a H&H PG, I might see you around the threads.

You should join the "Your Pregnancy, Belly Buddies" group, there are lots of nice ppl there. I chat in the end on Jan group and start of Feb group.

I am going to be going to Ozzy Park and have been there 2 other times without any bad news to report LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!

If you worried just go to a diff GP and say you need a dating US to know how preggers you are.....maybe that could work?

Well worth the drive.....and shared care is great....you can get a different opinion and point of view all the time.

Quick drive anyway....straight down the FWY and Karrinyup exit.

I heard rumors it might close in the next 5 years so thought I should try to get all the kids in through the doors while its still there hehe.
