City/st kilda, west, or Geelong
I got a recognition award at work, in the form of $100 to take DH out for dinner (have been doing AH work lately).
Typical him gets over excited and wants to go tomorrow.
I can't think of anywhere we could go without a reservation, or get one with only just over 24 hours notice.
Any suggestions? Am thinking drinks will be on top of the $100.
DH won't eat Greek, Turkish (my favourite :( ), or French food.

I reckon you could get in just about anywhere on Southbank if you had an early dinner, like 6pm. Also, there is China Town, which you can pretty much rock up to.
What about Docklands? Probably a bit pricey but there is Italian, Japanese etc.......
I eat any sort of food, so I'm not much help to recommend a certain place.

yeah you wouldnt need to book for most places around southbank or crown. And its only two people so Im sure if you called they would fit you in :)
I love Squire's Loft in the CBD for a fantastic steak and I like the Carrington in Geelong for a yummy parma.
Blue Train in Southbank is my favourite there and the Stokehouse in St Kilda.
Ooh and I thought what about Lygon Street? The front of house staff are always shoving menus in your face when walking down the street.

Blue Fire Grill in Melbourne Central is one of our fav's! YUMMO!!!
Silks at Southbank is really special and romantic - pricey though.
High Tea at the Windsor is pretty special if you love an afternoon of cakes, tarts and cups of tea.
My fave place in Lygon is Il Gusto, the guy out the front is full on (he's very italian LOL) but the food makes up for it (he really is lovely just very passionate). Its the most authentic and best quality food I've had along there. Nothing is fried and you don't get sauces filled with cream or onion to compensate (ie. its not mass produced food).
I LOVE blue fire grill, we have done the Churriscarria Grill a few times. Its brazillian barbecue, and you get unlimited amounts of meat brought fresh to your table straight off the rotisserie. Its good fun provided you don't eat lunch LOL! The one at Melb Central has the "Chocolate" restaurant next door and their apple pie icecream is heaven!

which was quite nice. I tried to talk him into Lygon St but he wouldn't.
Typical, my treat but I only get to go somewhere DH likes...that said it was very nice, the service was really good, but just not what I'd had in mind. Oh well, at least we got a night aout alone!
Living in Sydney and Melbourne I miss all the different foods there. In Brisbane its not as 'ethnic'. We have found a few turkish places which are good. I miss those Pides in Sydney.
