ok so i had my mini glucose test and it came back too high (8.9) and over the last two days, especially this morning i feel dizzy tired and really thirsty is there something i should be doing? i am not booked in for the gtt till monday to check it out but i am scared coz i feel really unwell
Noni, try not to stress about it. Drink plenty of water to combat the thirst and try not to overdo the refined sugar - eat fruit instead if you can. If you are feeling up to it this afternoon, go to the shops and just get some low GI alternatives to what you already eat - they rarely taste any different so you wont notice the change and they might help get you through the next few days.
If you're worried, call a doctor or something.
I don't know much about GD but things can get pretty serious quickly can't they? Not sure, could be wrong. But yeah if you're feeling pretty bad and are worried don't hesitate to get help.

i think the stress and worry you are feeling is prob making you feel worse... i hope you are ok.
i agree with sheries ideas, just substitute some of your faves and that should get you through and make you feel better!!! But if it really gets bad maybe call your GP just to feel better about it.

8.9 isn't very high - it's over the cut off point for the test but not by a huge amount. Generally you're looking at BSL's around 11 (which is really, really high) before you'd be getting symptoms like you're describing.
GD doesn't usually cause any symptoms unless it's really raging out of control (and even then maybe not) so I'm thinking what you're feeling probably isn't related to your blood sugar at all.
Of course steer clear of excessive sugar and carbs until you know what's going on but honestly I wouldn't panic, dizzyness and thirst are both pretty common pregnancy symptoms and while they can be a sign of something, more often they're nothing to worry about.

hey all thanks for ur replies, i ended up in the hospital it got so bad but my bsl was 6.4 so normal they couldn't figure out what it was and they sent me home looks like i might be getting a virus or something? but i had a ctg and all sorts of things and bubs is fine and all the signs point to me being fine too so no idea mysetery sickness???

Hope you're feeling a bit better by now. I'm 34w preg and I have Gestational Diabetes which I am now on insulin for. To answer your question, i'll explain a bit about GD. What happens is when you eat food and the energy goes in your body produces insulin which breaks that glucose or energy down and then sends it to you muscles so your body can actually use it for energy. So basically with GD your hormones and everything else stops the insulin working properly which means that what you eat isn't being broken down and being sent to your muscles to use as energy.
That's why you get tired, thirstiness is definitely a syptom of GD and as far as the dizziness goes those sort of symptoms usually occur when your blood sugar level drops too low but I have found when my levels are partcularly high I get dizzy, lightheaded etc and I have been told that will just be the way y body reacts, so it could be the same for you.
I don't tink there is much need to worry, but I would suggest you call the hospital and let them know, they will probably just leave it until monday for you to come in but probably best anyway.
It can be quite a shock to be diagnosed and can be quite hard to get your head around things in the beginning but believe me you will get used to it if you do have GD. Until then I just suggest you try to cut down on sugary foods and eat consistant amounts through the day. As far as diet specifics go you will most likely see a dietician to explain everything. Don't think by not eating much and going by usual diet mentality you will make it better because if you don't eat consistanly through the day your body will let out a supply of glucose that it makes itself and put your blood sugar levels up.
