I didn't use one at all during my entire PG or my homebirth. I had a beanbag i could put my chest on while on all fours to relax and i did a few cx with DP behind me and i put my head back on his shoulder and we swayed together.
I guess it depends on how you feel - if you feel you've used it a lot and had planned to use it, get a new one, if you just had it because it's what people have nowadays and you werent sure you'd use it (i'm sure they're great, i just didn't get one - might get one NOW actually! lol) then don't worry about it.
My true labour was under 4 hours, so i don't think my lack of fitball impeded anything.
I found the fitball good during pre-labour... sat reading birth stories on bellybelly while rocking in a circular motion on the fitball LOL.
Depends how you planned to use it I guess?
Thanks.
i use/d my ball alot as i have bad hips! but im having some pains tonight that im wondering if it might be leading to something!
i have a small bean bag but had not thought to use it in the birth(not sure if it will withstand me!)
sounds like you should get another one quick-smart! if you used it a lot anyway, then you'll probably continue to use it in the future, and i'd say it would be worth having it at hand even just for the peace of mind...
ask a good friend, your DH, or your mother to pop out and get you one tomorrow if you don't have the energy. they'll love to help, and you will be feeling fully-equipped for your home birth again.
good luck!!
If you use it a lot then sounds like you should get a new one. I made sure the hospital I went to had one as I planned to use it all along but never did. I found it so hard to find a comfortable position & leaning forward with something in the way of my stomach certainly was not it. Even tried the bean bag & that was no go either. The midwife had a chuckle when she entered the room & saw I'd found comfort leaning over the stack of pillows on the Couch that my DH was to sleep on:lol: They were very nice & cushy.

I used my fit ball a lot in early labour. Whilst things weren't too intense I would jump on it during a contraction and roll away. I found it great. I think that if mine broke I would replace it.
