Pregnancy Tests
Hi,
Sorry we haven't introduced ourselves. Our names are Alicia and Joel and only recently married. We are trying to have our first baby.
Alicia is about a week overdue so we went down to the chemist and bought a home test kit. The package came with two tests. We tested yesterday morning with the first urine. A faint second line appeared after five minutes but it wasn't strong enough to be convincing. We tested again this morning and the second line was much stronger and definate.
We were both very happy and went to the doctors clinic to get them to test. Where we live it is very difficult to see a doctor so we were only able to see the nurse. She took a sample of urine and did her test and it came back negative. She tried again and it returned negative again. We are going to make an appointment for next week to see a doctor.
As i'm sure you can understand we are both disappointed with the negative result the nurse gave us and waiting a week to be able to see a doctor is torture.
Our question is can a home pregnancy test give a positive result like ours if you aren't pregnant? From what I have read my understanding is that it can give a negative result due to lack of the hormone but how can it give a false positive result?
The test we used is Pregnosis Clear
- Over 99% accurate
- Detects hormone levels as low as 25 IU/L
- 7 to 10 days after conception
Looking forward to some advice even if it isn't what we want to hear.

Hi guys, I am in very much the same confusing and frustrating situation myself.
I have gotten 4 faint positives (some stronger than others) with two different brands. I went to the doctor this morning and she told me a definite negative off a urine test.
I'm not happy with the result at all, I'm still pretty sure I am pg as I've never had a positive test otherwise (and I've used a few over the last 10 months!). I agree, they don't always show up and that home tests are more sensitive. I too am heading back (to a diff dr) next week to push for a blood test, which will tell me for sure.
You can get false positives at times though. I'd try another brand maybe? Then also head to the dr if you think you are still pg and get a Blood test done.
Good luck with it all!! :D

It took 3 weeks and 8 urine tests to finnally show a positive with my current pregnancy. So Im guessing the tests that they had at the doctors wasnt as effective. The only thing I can think of is buying another test if its bugging u heaps and if that comes up positive, take it with u to the doctor and if u can get another one with the 2 tests in it, take the second test with u and do it in front of them (not the actual urine test the putting the stick in thing).

Thanks Guys
Alicia hasn't had her period. There is no sign of it at all other than she has felt like she was gonna get it in her stomach for the last few weeks but it has never come. I guess all we can do is wait and see a doctor next week. We just got off the phone to a family friend who is a nurse and she said that apparently it is not common practice for the doctor to do a blood test so early because its only been a week which explains why they didn't do one today. Ill try and make sure they give us one next week!
Thank you.

Ive never had that Joel, im sorry, but i do hope Alicia and yourself find out soon enought what is going on. Good luck on the week wait...it seems so far away but it may be a well worth waited, wait and get a positive.

I have read that the test drs use is not as sensitive as hpts. I have never had a doctor want to do a urine test - with all my pgs they said the hpt was evidence enough.
Since Alicia has no signs of AF coming, I would bet that the hcg levels are just too low to pick up yet on the dr's test - I would say you will get a +ve result from the drs next week. In the meantime you could try a couple of hpts using different brands, to make sure it's not a false positive (though these are very rare).
