Fibroid surgery
Hi,
I have a rather large fibroid that needs to be removed 5x7cm. TTC for the last 3 yrs and have heavy and extreamely painful period.
Doct said that i need to have surgery- very worried and scared of the surgery.
How long does it take to recover? how many weeks b4 i resume to normal life?
Is it painful, what is the feeling like. What to expect after surgery.
I am in Melb - anyone know Dr. Lyndon Hale at freemason or Dr Peter Tang in Mitcham
If you have any info, please repsond.
Thanks..

Hey Neets,
So sorry to hear about your fibroid...
I've had fibroids for years...they are nasty little things, hey?
In 2001, I was extremely anaemic (due to heavy periods from the fibroids) and ended up having to have surgery. The surgery I had was called 'uterine artery embolisation' and it was the 'latest and greatest' at the time...it was when they injected tiny little microspheres into my uterine arteries, which then blocked the blood supply to the fibroids, and they shrivelled up and died...I was in hospital for 4 days and then had a week or so off from work...I experienced little pain...but I was also fairly drugged up...
I had great results from the surgery...and although more fibroids did grow back, they weren't troublesome ones...
I'm now 35 weeks pregnany after 3 years of TTC (starting trying well after the surgery)...
HOWEVER...I've since found out that the surgery I had (ie. embolisation), is no longer recommended for women trying to get pregnant...and has gone out of favour with the Gyns...so you probably wouldn't be having that...
I imagine that the surgery you are talking about is a 'myomectomy'...
There is a fair bit of information about that surgical procedure on the web...so perhaps check it out...
I'm sorry I don't know much about the surgery...except it can have some good results, shouldn't impact upon future plans to have kids...and from what I understand, it's the best option (but I'm not a Dr!!!)
The only thing I would suggest keeping away from is the drug "zoladex"...it's pretty nasty...and from what I understand, a bit outdated to be using now...
Anyway...wishing you all the very best...
