Okay...I've started packing stuff for the hospital...
But I've got some questions...probably really dumb ones...so please excuse my naiviety!!!
Baby stuff:
- should I pre-wash all the new baby clothes?
- how many baby clothes changes will I need to make per day?
- how many baby wraps should I take?
- do babies wear singlets under all of their clothes?
- are baby socks fine instead of booties?
- what sizes should I pack?

Check with the hospital I only needed going home clothes for baby. The hospital provided everything else. Got a bag of nappies provided and took most home with me.
Because believe me you will go through more than you can imagine at first. You are learning I don't know how many wraps got wet in the process of changing nappies LOL.
Definately pre wash all the baby clothes, you don't know who's touch them before you bought them.
You'll probably need a couple of changes of clothes per day, allowing for nappy leaks and milk dribbles.
My hospital was the same as Charly's mum, the hospital pretty much provided everything and I just needed a going home out fit. But you might like to have your own stuff to put on bub cause hospital clothes are pretty plain.
At this time of year I pretty much use singlets all the time.
Socks are fine, I don't think I bothered with booties for a couple of months. Not sure on the sizes though.

The hospital says to bring baby clothes...but I might give them a ring just to clarify what they provide...think it's mainly wraps...

Sizes I have packed, but don't know what I'll need yet are 000, which is what has been recommended to me.
I have an extra bag, to leave in the car, should dh need to go out and grab it with 2 grow suits that are 0000. They are bonds ones, and sealed (I even have the docket sticky taped to the pack) so I can swap them for the next size up if I don't need them.
Have you got a close family member near by. Grandmas love to buy new presents for bubs, so don't stress if you do need something smaller, I'm sure they will be happy to oblige.
someone has given us a 00000 sized outfit, I'm not huge, but I can feel where bubs is and I think he has buckleys chance of fitting into that outfit, it's sooo tiny.
My hospital suggested to bring the following: (they only provide nappies for while baby is in hossy)
- 6 grow suits
- 6 singlets
- 6 bunny rugs
- 2 bonnets, mittens, bootees
I've washed and packed all the above in 0000s and have got washed 000 at home if need be. Because the Bonds wondersuits have the feet enclosed and also have the ability to do that with hands, I guess the mittens and bootees may not be necessary, but I have packed 2 or 3 hats if I need them. HTH!
oh, and Monnie, i PM you, but, forget to add, just a going home outfit is fine. Perhaps take 2 sizes JIC.

A tip.. I learn this after my 3rd son.. lay a blanket over the top half of the baby bed to keep any drafts out... I hope you get what I mean there lol
On a side note...My DS was 8lb 3oz (a good size) and fit into 0000's at the hospital, 000's were way too big. Also, be aware that Bonds wondersuits are a size too small so if you want 0000's, buy 000's and so forth with each size (hope that makes sense!).

why are wondersuits a size too small??? i never knew that lol oops lucky i only bought one so far
So all the 00's that MIL has bought us will be right as 000 because they are Bonds? OK. So I might just pick up some Bonds 000's for the first couple of weeks and see how we go from there. Although I must say the 00 Bonds' still look pretty big!!
Dear Monnie, When our DS was born he was only a littley 6lb11 and the size 0000 were quite big on him. He also was vomited alot as he was an emergency CS so had lots of yucky mucous in his tummy so we had to change him 3 or more times a day. So having learnt that lesson this time we are taking lots of clothes enough for 2 or 3 changes a day. Yes wash all the baby clothes before you use them in a mild non enzyme detergent and yes our baby always had on a singlet. The best things are the Bonds jumpsuits. We took about 6 or 8 of them and then about 10 singlets. Keep in mind that babys do grow really fast and if your baby is a little bit bigger say 8lb or over then the 0000 might be too small. We also took about 5 or 6 baby wraps too. Even though the hospital we had our DS at provided clothes and baby wraps many do not and they don't take up much space so pack extra and then if you have a bub that vomits you'll have plenty of spares. I think it depends on whether you have you baby at a public or private hospital. I am having my bubs at a private and we only need to take nappies and clothes to go home in but my friend has to take everything for every day they are there and she is going public. I would just give them a quick call to clarify..
I must say both my girls were 8lb 11 oz and 8 lb 13 oz and both were in 0000 at hossi. My mum even bought 5 noughts for one of my girls and she wore that jumpsuit in the first two weeks......
I agree with everything that's been said. Prewash clothes, Bonds Wondersuits are small, and allow for nappy leakage, milk dribbles, and vomiting. My DD had refulx, so I went through at least 2 wraps, 2 bodysuits and 2 singlets a day.
On singlets, I always went by the rule of thumb that "whtever I was wearing, plus one extra layer". So if I was wearing a t-shirt and a windcheater, bub would be in a singlet, wondersuit and a wrap. I read that somewhere, but can't remember where......maybe Miriam Stoppard's book.
As for socks/booties, if bubba is in a full bodysuit, their feet will be covered, and they will have a wrap, so I don't know if they are totally necessary.
Sizes, I agree with mainly 000, but some 0000. You would rather them be too big than too small.
And ytou will be so surprised with how much you will be given, so I wouldn't stress too much. One of the grandmas would LOVE to pop out and buy something if needed.

Oooh, handwash all those clothes in Lux soap - smells divine and all baby.
Doesn't the hospital provide you with a list? they can all be different with whats provided.
Don't forget about YOU! Fav moisturiser, hair ties, maybe nice cardie or top for hossy in case you don't like being in PJ's all day. Take lip gloss, mascara and concealer.
But most of all - take a roll of really, really soft toilet paper.

I've just packed my bag too....not completed but I just realised that I didnt pack enough wraps!! lol Gotta go put them in straight away before I forget....that in mind, is it necessary to have front buttoned clothes as the hosp recommends? I hardly have any.... :( Thought perhaps T-shirts would be sufficient for casual daily wear....and track dacks maybe? :dunno:
