Its really trial and error, every bub is different, with my experience Karicare works best for my DD! i know u can get sample packs of the karicare from supermarkets, havent seen any other brands sell them.
I use s26, but like Blanche said its all trial and error, see if you can get sample packs and trial them.
I started with S26 Gold and it cause major constipation, colic, reflux and wind. Had to stop after a week. I now use Karicare and found it works best for us.
i got a trial pack of Nurture Gold and he had it at 9.30 and slept from 10.30 until 2.45 am think ill give this one a go.....
Thanks ladies
I had no idea which one to choose when I started topping up DS's breastfeeds with formula. The woman at the chemist said that the Karicare Gold tasted the most similar to breastmilk, which was probably a load of trollop lol, but we've been using that with no problems so far.
We also had major constipation issues with S26 and tried Karicare as well before settling on NAN 1 Gold HA. My research told me that this was the formula most like breast milk but I only found this out when DD was 6 weeks old...and who knows if it is actually true?!
Like the others said - it is very much trial and error and seeing what suits you and your bub best. They are all different!
When I decided to wean my son I was told to try the cheapest whey dominant formula you could find first.... which is usually Heinz Nurture. My bub happily took this one and it is so much cheaper than the other brands. The standards in Australia are so high for formula and all the manufacturers have to comply; so cheap doesn't mean not as good.
I used SMA with my first, and am using S26 AR (Anti-reflux formula) for Nicholas. I am considering changing to karicare though as I have heard of people having better results with this for reflux babies.
As i posted before i use S26, ive noticed Lachlan is starting to really struggle to do poo's, i want to change formula's to see if this eliminates the problem, he also has bad reflux.
I want to try karicare, as hearing the results from others, seems like the best choice.
Question is how to i change formula with him? and how long to i try it before i know if it is good for him??
have used S26 with maddy and no probs at all!!
I started with S26 gold and had lots of probs so switched to Bellamys Organic and haven't looked back! Its organic so free from nasties and didn't cause my DS any constipation issues like the S26 did. It's available from Coles or Safeway/Woolworths and comes in stage 1, 2 and 3.
Jesse started FF at 9 days and the Heinz Nuture Gold 1 worked well for him.. When 6 months moved him up to #2 and caused constipation.. so switched to S26 Gold #2. Now hes eating food we've put him back to just the plain old S26 (non gold) as its cheaper and we feel he's getting all he needs in the food now too.
We used S26 Gold and had major constipation issues, I would investigate the NAN gold as well you can get little trial packs at the superdooper

I agree with Krisp - Bellamy's Organic was producing beautiful poops in my little guy. We had to change to an AR formula though as he was getting quite chucky and wasn't satisfied. So onto Karicare HA-AR he went, and the problems just excalated, he was screaming all day everyday, could never poo without the help of Infant's Friend etc. Changed to Karicare Coat's Milk formula with thickener added, and have a perfectly happy, content bub. They say it is good for bubs with unexplainable stomach pain, and it worked for us. So, if you have troubles with the cheaper milks, consider giving goat a go!
