What is the adequate weight gain for babies?
Aiden was 3.585kg at birth, discharge weight: 3.465kg, and at 4 weeks is 4.15kg. Doesnt seem like alot. I thought it was 150 - 200grams a week.

Hi debbie
I responsed to you in the june bubs too.
He is averaging 170gm / week and i that is fine.
The literature states 150g-200g / week on average is normal up to 3 months and then the weight slows a little until 6 months when it slows down again.
Ashley was a little baby (born full term) at 2.660kg (10 % percentile) so i figure she is just doing some catching because she is growing so fast.
She was 2.66kg @ birth, 3.86kg @ 4 weeks, 4.04kg @ 6 weeks. So she averages 230gm/week (and still littler than your bub).
I wouldnt be worried, You are doing a great job!
My paed gave me a "calculation" he uses on newborns:
Birthweight will drop, and should go back up to birthweight, in the first 5 days post birth
Then ABOUT 150g a week
By 6 weeks old, ABOUT 1kg above birthweight
That said, he was also clear to say to me that the above is just a guide, and that all babies are different, and that we should gauge the demeanor & appearance of our babies as well as the scales.
How do you feel Aiden is fairing? Scales aside, is he content? Lots of wet nappies?
It looks like he is perfectly on track.......bare in mind that the 150-200g a week is an average........he may only put on 100g one week, then stack on 250g another week?
Hope that puts your mind at rest a little?
