Confused By Due Date...
Hey Everyone,
I am so confused lol I had a scan on the 20th of June and it said that according to the size of the baby that I was 7 weeks... which would make me around 13 weeks now but that just doesnt add up lol because dont you have approx 14 days before conception that is added on... like from the first day of your LMP... I have no idea of the date of my LMP but I would put it around the 18th of April... which means Im due at the end of January and about 15 weeks... this is just so confusing to me lol I feel stupid because I keep having to ask my cousin who is 4 weeks ahead of me how far she is so I can work out my dates lol. :wall: I never had this problem with my other two because I knew my period dates... this time was a bit of a shock.
If anybody can shed some light it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Nicole

i think the rule of thumb/average is 40 weeks from 1st day of your LMP however if you are unsure of that date, your periods were irregular or any doubt then they give you a dating scan... in any case i would go withthe date they gave you from the scan as this is most accurate esp b4 13 weeks... every cycle etc is diff so an early scan will give you the most accurate date...

My EDD is 9 January according to the scan I had at 8 weeks 6 days, but when I was writing my ante natal appointments on the calendar - the first day of week 40 falls on Boxing Day...I'm confused too!!

Hi Nicole,
I was a little confused with the EDD thing too! I'm pretty sure it goes from the first day of your LMP. Although once I had my first ultrasound I just went with that date! It was only a little different from mine.
I also noticed you were from Taree, I'm in Forster n am expecting my first bub. I'm am having it at Manning Base, how about you???? Same hospital or are you making the treck to Port?

Hey Pish,
Congratulations on your first baby. I am having mine at Manning Base. I had my first there and my second in Wodonga lol. I am hoping that all goes well. Both of my kids have been over 10 pounds . Have fun and enjoy the time you have left. What OB are you seeing? Dr. Hodgson is lovely lol.

I'm with Dr Strong. She has a surgery at Forster as well as Taree so it works out well..... and its a lady!!!

The EDD is 38 weeks from the approximate date of O. It is taken as 40 weeks from LMP based on an average 28 day cycle with O happening around day 14. Of course not all of us have perfect 28 day cycles with 14 day follicular phases.
If you were 7 weeks on 20 June, you probably O'd around 16 May 2007, which means that your 40 weeks (taking the 2 weeks before O) actually starts on 2 May 2007 and your EDD is around the 6 February 2008.
I'd take the dates from the ultrasound - because the timing of O can vary, taking the LMP is only an approximation and it seems that you may have O'd late in your cycle if your LMP was 18 April.

Ditto to everything that Gidget has written.
If your LMP is unclear, take it from the pre-13 week scan.

Thanks for the clearing of that. It's still as clear as mud lmao.
Pish I am also seeing Dr. Strong... my first appointment is on the 30th of this month. I want to know if she has an ultrasound machine in her Taree office lol cause I know Dr Hodgson does... and it was such a toss up as to who to see but I went with Dr Strong otherwise I would have to be running out to Forster to see him all the time. At least Dr Strong is close by. Is she nice? lol
