Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for something special the big brother can get when the new bub is born? We bought him a toy that his new baby brother is going to give him once he's born so he doesn't feel left out but was just wondering what other people have done for the older siblings... Maybe something special they could keep?? I want my DS to feel special too and as involved as possible. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks :dance:
Our baby will be giving ds a Thomas train when he/she arrives. They are his absolute favourite toy at the moment.
We bought our then 29 month old DD a necklace and ring...(costume jewellery). To be honest, i really dont think the new baby (her sister) needed to have bought her anything.
She was smitten with her new sister, excited to have a cuddle and a kiss. I just made sure i did the same to her.
I wont be buying anything for the girls when DD#3 arrives.....me and DH will make them feel special, i dont think a 'gift' will.....good luck.
The breastfeeding necklace I bought with new baby in mind has become a favourite accessory of my two year old, and I think she enjoys having this link with the new baby sister she is expecting.
My four year old son has some photos of himself breastfeeding to show the new baby. We haven't selected a particular gift from the new baby, but he has enjoyed helping pack my hospital bag and likes to talk every day about "what will happen at the hossy". I keep reminding him that the baby moves a lot when she hears his voice and that as soon as she is born she will know him as she already listens to him talking and wants to come out and meet him.
mbear i'm not just getting a gift to make him feel special, i want to give him something special that he can keep for years to come to mark the birth of his brother. He is pretty involved in the baby's life already (always wanting to feel him, get him things, help in the nursery etc) and i just want something that he can relate back to this time.
I've bought a 'my little pony' for Em, & put it in a gift bag. I also bought a colouring book & some crayons, just to give her somehting to do while at the hospital if she gets a bit restless. I don't know if it's necessary or not, but I feel better having it there JIC. I also bought a pressie for her to give to the bub.
I've been thinking about this, and I'm not sure yet what I will do for Aidyn when the new baby comes along... though I too would like to give him something special.
A thought I had was making up a special poem for him, about becoming a big brother, and then including a photo of him with his new sibling, and having it framed - but thats not something that could be given to him straight at the birth, due to needing to get the photo printed etc.
Jovie brought some fish home from the hospital with her for Matilda ;) We set up the fish tank the week before I was due and we talked about the baby bringing home fish for Matilda. She was so excited when Jovie was born, all she could talk about were her new fish :rolleyes:.
We also took Matilda shopping for something to give her new baby sister (a teddy) and we bought a matching one for Jovie to give Matilda at the hospital.
Would a three (?) year old really appreciate a keepsake?? Perhaps a nice photoframe with a photo of him with the new baby could be something displayed in his room.
we have got our just turned 3yo a buzz lightyear toy and he knows his little baby brother will give it to him when he comes out of mummys tummy. he cant wait! we have also got him a little doll (bargain - $10 at kmart) which comes with bottle, comb, nappy etc in a backpack so that he can play with the doll and feed it while i feed the babe (okay okay let me live in my dreams just for a moment anyway)....
im not sure about a keepsake...its a nice idea but not sure what he would keep?
of course we are hoping we will also make him feel special as well!
I think a keepsake is a nice idea, but they probably need to each get one. Jack's keepsake was a beautiful baby brother and he has loved him from day 1! Tom did bring an etch-a-sketch with him though and Jack loves that too. We left it at the hossy until we were discharged so that Jack had something special to play with when he was there.
