Induction at 37 weeks
Hi everyone
I found out today that I'll need to be induced at 37 weeks (blood pressure is remaining high even whilst taking medication) I've been induced both times with my previous pregnancies - but really close to my due date. I'm just wondering if bubs coming early at 37 weeks means that she'll have to stay in Special Care. I guess i'm just wanting some reassurance that she'll be ok.
Thanks in advance.:)

Hey Jaz, I'm guessing your appointment didn't go so well today. A full term pg is classed as anything from 37-42wks, so she will be classed as full term, but she may still have some issues with breathing etc. Going through labour will help her lungs prepare for that though. I am sure she will be OK and I know you were worried about this happening. Hugs for you hun.

37 weeks is full term (37 weeks til 41 weeks and 3 days is length of normal pregnancy), bubs will not need to go to special care unless they are cold, or have low apgars or are smaller that expected but generally speaking 37 weeks babies haved no problems.
Relax and enjoy the last few days of your pregnancy and also try natural induction methods to help yourself along before then eg having sex, nipple stimulation, clitoral stimulation.
Good luck and try not to stress as that dosnt help your blood pressure!!

I had Riley at 37weeks and 3 days (because of BP)and he weighed 8lb 3 oz and didn't need any special care at all! The only difference between him and his sisters who were full term was that he had vermix(sp) all over him and looked like he was greased up to swim the English channel!!

Thanks ladies :) Feeb, my dh will be happy with your suggestions (poor thing has been a little neglected of late!!!)

Jazmum I just wanted to pop in and give you a big ! I agree with the other ladies, babies born at 37 weeks are considered term and only need to visit special care under the same circumstances as any other bub born at term.

Hi, I've also always been told 37 weeks is "term". But certainly ask your caregiver if you have any questions about your little one's welfare! Don't fret hun! xx
