Hi all,
I would like to get a "soap free" soap that will sooth and limit the occurence of eczema, that is not overpriced.
The brands QV, Cetaphil and Dermaveen etc have soap bars that are around $7 each.
I have found the Sorbolene "Natural Selections" @ around $3 for three bars. (but I am not sure if these are "soap free".)
I already have a soap free body wash, but would like to have cakes of "soap free" soap.
Would love any suggestions...

Hiya, how about just water? I use QV for Natalie (the liquid wash) but only every 2nd or 3rd bath. But she is only little and doesn't get 'dirty' as such...
We use the QV bath oil which has been fantastic and although expensive you do only need a small amount. As for bar thats's a hard one, I think all the soap free ones are more pricey, the sorbolene ones sound ok, maybe call the company and inquire bout wheter they're soap free.
Sorbolene is one of the best things you can use in the bath or shower instead of soap if you have bad eczema.
What about the Neutrogena, I think they are soap free. A bit more expensive than regular soap but not as much as QV products.
I use the Gaia Natural Baby products on the boys and it was the best thing for Jack when he was younger and had eczema. And believe me, I have tried everything else. When his eczema was really playing up I would alternate between Gaia bath wash and Alpha-keri oil. Wonderful stuff!
In the boys' bath we use oatmeal and calendula petals in a muslin bag - soothing, moisturising and natural (and cheap!). You can just use oatmeal by itself, just in a bag or stocking. Sorbolene is still mineral oil based (unless you get a vegetable oil one) and whilst it may be okay for some, it may trigger a reaction in others, plus it can sting on really dry skin.
I use either the Gaia natural products or nothing in the bath. Angel oats is a great alternative, I wonder if I can use oats with something like a touch of lavender oil....
We've been using rolled oats with lavender and its wonderful!!! I put a few cups of oats in a large bowl, with 1 tsp of lavender essential oil. I stir it & leave it for a few minutes to let the oats absorb the oil. This time I bought some 100% cotton stockings & I cut out portions and tied one end together, put around 1/3 cup of the oats into the "bag" and then tied the other end.... not too attractive, but I may develop it ;)
I put the "oat bag" (Dh calls it oat tea) into the bath around 2minutes before the girls hop in. I give it a good squeeze a few times & stir it up before I put them in. The first time I used it in my bath to see what happened & it softened my skin so nicely. Both girls come out fantastic & aren't as dry skinned as before.
We don't use soap once we realised the boys had eczema, they just soak in the bath, every now and again they will have 'bubbles' which is dermaveen body wash and I will give them a good wash over. But even though they don't use soap products we have never had a problem with nappy rashes or anything.
I was told that the body doesn't need soap. THe other thing suggested was sorbolene which we use sometimes, it is cheap and it is actually a moisturiser but also a cream clenser, it leaves their skin nice.
I've had eczema all my life and I just use good old water. For the kids I use water too but If we need to scrub to remove the dirt I use sorbelene.
A good old fashioned milk bath is wonderfully soothing as well ... just put in a couple of tablespoons of full cream milk powder into the bath with whatever herbs you want (lavendar or chammomile are great) and soak ....
It's my all time favourite bathtime treat .... and hey if it's good enough for Cleopatra .... ;)

We used your oat recipe tonight, Christy! Boy, that bag of oats feels gross when you give it a squeeze LOL. And the water is mighty cloudy. But it seemed to soften her skin a little... more than plain water anyway.
Snacks - Just don't combine the milk and oats together ... porridge bath is no fun!!! :cryinglaugh:
LOL my kids love squeezing the bag & squishing the oat milk out. Its so softening, I find in winter the plain water is drying as well. I tried sorbolene too but I wanted something that smelled nice LOL
LOL Diva! I was thinking while she was bathing that it was like a porridge bath - didn't think of adding milk at the same time to make it a more authentic experience. Hmmmm. ;)
Christy, I took the bag out before Natalie got in. She likes to suck her rubber duckies in the bath, and I didn't really want her sucking on the oats LOL! Ooo, do you suppose it is bad that she's sucking on the ducks when there's a little bit of lavendar oil in the bath? :o
