Not quite sure what to think?

Well, i'm just off the phone to my Obs at the Mercy Hospital.

When i was last in hospital for the abnormal bleed they did a whole range of tests - pap smear included. My results are back, and i have a legion! They arn't 100% sure of what it is..... she said most likely cancer! She said this based on my family history i think/and hope (mum has no breasts due to cancer at the age of 32) . So trying not to freak out!

I have to go back and get checked out to see what grade it is - so it's sound pretty much like the C word to me.

Has anyone else had any results like this before..... and what does that mean for my little prince?

I'm freaking now cause i have to ring Glenn and tell him!

How scary. I cant offer any advice but hope that it turns out NOT to be cancer.

Hi Kirby, try not to be too worried until you have more information. It's possible to have early changes in the cervix (including a cervical lesion) which may not have yet developed into anything cancerous. They will need to do more investigations before they can tell you this, either way it will require some sort of treatment. Maybe write a list of questions to ask when you go back in, and take someone with you in case you don't remember everything they say.

I really hope it's not the C word, how awful that you're going through this.
I thought that doctors can't speculate what they think it may be before they've done all the tests.
For them to say it's most likely cancer doesn't sound right, it could be a number of things couldn't it?

Thanks for your replies guys... much appreciated as i don't want to worry family and friends just yet.

My next stage of testing is a colposcopy (sp) and biopsy to see what grade it is. She said it's "most likely cancer as i have a cervical lesion with cancerious cells".... and i was like what doctor tells you this on the phone, but when she booked me in straight away for these other test i knew she meant business. So i'm just trying to stay calm, must admit thought i feel old hand at all this sort of stuff with everything we went through with Mum.

Another thing that is keeping me calm is knowing that i had a Pap smear in Jan this year - so it's only been 7-8 months since my last one.

That's great that you've had a recent pap smear so if it's anything dangerous they've certainly caught it early. They recommend a pap smear every 2 years so i assume this means that's often enough to test and things can't get that bad in that amount of time.
Try to relax...very difficult I know.

but if it is, i knwo it is beatable, i was diagnosed with cancer 3 months after my wedding so i know what you are going thru right now.. mine was a totally different one but the wait for tests and newd is the same!!

if it is cancer,
it depends on what type of treatment you will need as to how they wil go ahead with you.. i was told by my doctors that you can still have chemo whilst pregnant after a certain number of months, as the baby will be able to cope with it, and they have their own circulatory system.
scans right now for you may be tricky due to your preg, i knwo i cant have any so i am missing on my check up scan.

what you need to so right now is to stay calm for your health and for your little boy!!!
you need to kep positive!

really i know this is devastating news to get that it could be dangerous, but it could also be a false alarm!!!

Well, was informed today that i will be booked in for surgery 6 weeks after baby is born! I am booked in for 2 types of biopsies (sp) on the 17th and that will give them a clearer picture on what to do from there.

It's very reassuring to know that bubs is leap frogging around in there, and keeping me up all hours of the night. And he is a dead set blessing... cause without him we would not have become aware to this, i mean you don't always go to the GP if you have abnormal bleeding (not pregnant). So i'm really lucky!

So now i an hoping like hell that bub comes on his own and without a C-secion:pray:... not sure how anyone could handel 2 ops in 6 weeks. But if not i'm sure we will have 100's of baby sitter all waiting their turn!

Smudge... i think i am so positive cause i know from past experience with mum, sometimes the mind can help you alot.... or hinder you! I am 100% sure DH is not coping as well, he refuses to speak with me about it! Not sure why, and has only spoken to 1 person about it and he was in tears... this the whole experience (baby, cancer and the fact that we tried for so long to get pregnant) is scaring him!

LisaBear... Thanks so much for sharing your experience - definatly not nice as a newlywed! I think it's the waiting and the unknown thats the worst... would have rathered they kept this news to them selves and told me after baby was born. But hey - can't change the past now!

just wanted to wish you all the luck you need! You're right, staying positive is sooo important, as is letting out the hurt you feel ( I mean don't ignore that bit, you're bound to be scared at times aswell but thats also logical and okay)

I wish you an uneventfull rest of your pregnancy and a "easy" birth, so you are well enough to enjoy you bub and strong enough to endure the procedures needed!

Kirby, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see how you are travelling. It might just take a little bit longer for all these massive changes and possibilities to sink in for your DH. Hopefully he will come round soon, he may just need some more time to digest everything.

just wanted to let you know that my big sister had cancerous cells in her cervix very early during pregnancy #1. It was so concerning that the doctors advised an abortion. My sister, though, went through with the pregnancy, and presto - after a completely normal birth of her baby boy, she had a conisation, and there were NO cancerous or even abnormal cells left at all! Her OB said that this is actually quite common.

So, even if it's hard, try to keep cool!
