Is this normal?!
Hi All,
Apologies for going in to maybe too much detail...
Avaleigh is 6 weeks old tomorrow and has been breastfed since day one. So my question is, how many pooy nappies can a breastfed baby have?? My reason for asking is some people in my baby buddies thread say their baby's go days between poos and Avaleigh used to nearly have a poo with every nappy change!! Now its gone to about 3-4 pooy nappies but with most nappies she has a 'skid mark'
Hmmm... and her poo seems to be runny most of the time, I guess you could say its kinda like diarrohea but I am not too sure as its been like this nearly since day one. She did used to have the frothy poo at around 2 weeks old but that has gone away. Also, her poos are kinda explosive!! Is this all normal?
And what I have been noticing that she sometimes does a burp about 3 hours after her last feed!!
I've just put this down to Avaleigh having colic as she finds it really hard to part with her wind but I have just read about lactose intolerance and am worried that she may have this!!
Any thoughts, advise would be great. We are going for her 6 week checkup this week and may ask to see a paed.
Once again, sorry for the TMI!

Ummmm all sounds normal to me (esp the runny poo bit)...but definitely ask your dr if you've got any doubts!

Thanks Marydean :) It probably is normal. I must just be a worried first time mum!

Boston is formula feed and nearly 8 weeks old but he too has runny poo and explodes when he goes. He usually goes once a day but was going twice a day up until a few weeks ago - i know it is different for FF and BF babies in regards to how many times they poo. His poo is runny but not diarrohea IYKWIM. It's kind of like toothpaste and a really horrible greeny colour - it changes from green to pumpkin colour - lovely. I think it is runny poo but when he poos by chance when I'm changing him it actually comes out like toothpaste not diarohea which I don't remember at this age with Mackenzie but when I checked with the other mums in Mothers group who have 2nd kids they all said it was normal. We are off to the pead in a few weeks so I will mention it to him if its still the same. In regards to the burping ages after a feed, yep we get that too sometimes - Boston has slight reflux/colic so I put it down to that - It is something they will grow out of but there isn't much you can do about it.

nikbrad - oh good. Sounds like the runny poo is normal. And I would agree that the poo is like toothpaste, LOL I've been caught out a few times! Avaleigh has colic/reflux too.. cant wait til she grows out of that, I'll be able to sleep a whole night in my own bed!

Sounds perfectly normal Veronica, but always check things out if you are worried :)

Veronica Avaleigh sounds perfectly normal to me! I can remember thinking with Sammy..omg ANOTHER poo!!! LOL..it seemed to be every nappy change for ages, but then i think it was around 8 weeks it really seemed to slow down, definately by 3 months into more of a daily or twice daily thing. Explosive poos all sound normal too...the burping thing..its hard to tell. Ive never really had big burpers so for me it would seem normal to not burp alot. I love her ticker pic btw...what a happy little girl!

Hi V!
Oscar is the same with his poos at the minute and I was wondering the same thing! Must be normal!!
-
sounds normal to me, we had a poo at most nappy changes, and they were all runny!
-
my baby girl is 14 weeks (who is breastfed) and she now does a poo about every 2 days. When she does one it goes EVERYWHERE so it too is explosive and runny. She also sometimes does a burp ages after a feed. Don't know why but better out than in!!
-
Sounds like mine at the age. The days between poos didn't come about till they were around 4 months.

Sounds very normal!!
Dylan used to go all the time and now he goes usually about once or twice a day. It will slow down in time!!
Dylan also burps and even sicks sometimes 2 or 3 hours after a feed but we have had issues with wind with him as well...He's also a chucky baby - still!!! I can't wait til he grows out of it because I seem to cop a chunder on me at least once a day!!! LOL!!!
