HELP!!!
My poor lil girl has gastro atm and as a consequence has the worst nappy rash/burn on her butt and vagina area. She absolutely screams when we try to wipe her clean.
We have been using Paw paw cream, Amolin, and Bepanthen (sp?). So far nothing has helped at all :cry:
Is there any other creams or reliefs people use and have a quick relief or to help her?
i don't know any creams sorry kim, but maybe just wiping her with warm water and a soft cloth rather than using wipes. Hope someone else can help more. *HUG*
I'm not sure either, but i would be using warm water and cotton wool, as there is a lot of chemicals in wipes and i'ld imagine they would sting.

my little man got a bad case of the fruit poo squirts...and some nappy rash that would not budge...I tend to use the natural based products, but in this circumstance I use Desitin (Zinc Oxide based) which cleared it up in 2 days

Agree with Desitin (has a greater Zinc content than Sudocrem), smells funny, but works well. If it does not start to clear up you may want to see if it is a fungal rash as well. If so just grab some Canestin (or something similar) and layer that under the Desitin 3 times a day.
DD had one really bad rash once which did not want to budge. In the end I had to use the Desitin/Canestin combo 3 times a day, with Bepanthen for other changes. The rash cleared quickly after that. I also just cleaned her with just water and cloth wipes.
I absolutely SWEAR by Zinc and Castor OIl cream. You can buy it from the supermarket. I never use anything else. The zinc heals and the castor oil is a good thick barrier.

I'm another Zinc fan. Works as a great barrier as well as heals. I find that it is really hard to wipe it off (even in the bath) so provides a great barrier to urine and feces. I also find sudocream to be fantastic in the early stages of nappy rash.
Whilst the nappy rash is clearing up - try keeping away from chemicals such as wipes and stuff in the bath. A cotton ball in warm water should be suffice to clean any poo or wee at nappy change time.

we are goign thru this at the moment Jack is on anti-bi's and man the rash is shocking never had a rash before so is a bit of shock, spoke to CHN, chemist, dr and a midwife they all siad steer clear of sudocream :dunno:
they all suggested zinc/castor oil cream but while I was in the chemist another lady over heard and she said lanosil (sp??) the stuff you put on cracked nipples well I happened to have a couple of sample of it, and although it is so sticky he stopped screaming as soon as I ut it on and even after 1/2 day his rash is so much better
You could try cold chamomile tea to soothe her bot and let her have plenty of nappy free time.
There is this incredible nappy rash cream we have - its made my a pharmacist nearby, its tar & fish oil based, and its incredible...
Every time we have had a severe bout, put it on once and by the next change it is 100% clear. My GP recommended it as she had terrible issues with nappy rash with her baby - to whole area was just open and bleeding apparently, and this fixed it up.
Its from Chapel Gate Pharmacy in Chapel St, but its a glass jar so i can't really send it to you! Oh, and its very messy and stains, but at least it works..
Seriously, the guy should go global with it - it's that good!
lanosil works really well for Emelia, i try give her as much nappy free time as i can aswell! poor Chels hope she is well soon.
If you know anyone in Adelaide, the pharmacy at the Women's and Children's Hospital make a nappy rash cream which is brilliant. Works better than anything else I've seen. It is also zinc based.

DS had bad nappy rash last weekend because he had the runs. I could pretty much time the runs with his bottle. The bottle wouldn't even touch the sides. So, when I was reasonably sure he wasn't going to poo I let his bum air. It seemed to do wonders just letting his skin dry out. I then put paw paw stuff on it. It really kept it in check. Then when the runs had stopped, not a sign of nappy rash.
He's happy as Larry now. Soft bum has returned.

Zinc cream is good as is lansinoh cream. The trick is to put it on thick to act as a barrier. Poo contains enzymes which break down meat and fats. Normally by the time the poo comes out most of these enzymes have been depleted but when you have diarrhoea the enzymes end up trying to break down your own body. If you put the cream on thickly then it prevents the enzymes from reaching the skin. Zinc cream is as cheap as chips if you manage to find it at your local discount store.
