only 9 weeks to go and scared

Hi eveyone
been awhile since I was last on line been so busy with work and the other kids anyway the reason I am writing is I am having a VBAC and I am so scared about everything I have had two normal births and my last birth was by c-section for a low lying placenta I have read lots on the net about vbacs but I am still scared that my scar will split .

Has anyone had a vbac because I would love to know how you felt and how you dealt with your vbac

I have asked my doctors but all they say is everything will be fine and everything is on hand if needed

Moomoo - I can totally understand. I really tried not to focus on all the "what-ifs" before labour. It's great to be informed, but then just try to focus on the positives. And really, the chance of rupturing is so low. It sounds like you have great Drs around who are being positive - that's great!

The chances are minimal. I tried to think of it like this, there are so many complications that *could* go wrong with birth and they very rarely do. But when we go into birth we don't or try not to stress about those things as it takes away from the experience and can stall labour on a mental level. So I would just have faith in what your Dr's are telling you (they sound fantastic) and know that you are in good hands. Your body is built for this, and as I read on birthrites once if you had an operation on your leg and had a scar if you started walking or running again would you be worried it was going to split open? I very much focused on the positives, and thanks to the support I had during birth it was an amazing experience. The thing is too because you have had two vaginal births the chances of anything happening are slim to none. Your body knows what to do and it will do it a lot easier than if it hadn't been there before. For me with my first labour I didn't really go into labour at all, I only got to 4 cms so my body had more work to do than say someone who has had either previous vag births or someone who got to say 9cms. And I still did it ;) So you can too hon. Try not to beat yourself up for stressing, but maybe try and alleviate that stress with meditation and affirmation. If you would like a copy of some affirmations I used let me know, as I do believe they helped.

There are lots of things that can happen during labour. For a first time mum, or a mum that has never had a c/s there are things that can happen, that are much more likely than a uterine rupture. But when they labour we don't say to them, oh be careful you may have a cord prolapse, or you better watch out for a placental abruption!
Your vbac is just a birth, don't forget that!! The chance of uterine rupture is small, and it doesn't happen instantly, there are signs which is what your care providers will be watching for.
Trust yourself and your body. You can do it!! You have done it before!!
Put the uterine rupture stuff to the back of your mind and just focus on bringing your beautiful bub into the world with your more than capable body!!

I was petrified of natural birth... and had an extremely successful VBAC. To this day it is one of the fondest memories of my life. I think one of the main things is to try to curb your emotions of being scared. This will make you feel tense. The more you relax the better as it allows all your birthing muscles to work in unison. I would jump quickly and check out something like hypnobirthing. I did this and it was the best! All the best!

I too had 2 natural then a planned homebirth turned emergency c-section. My 4th pregancy was a battle to have an INTERVENTION FREE VBAC in hospital. I felt like I spent my whole pregancy fighting. I was scared during my pregnancy, but more scared of another c-section :-) During labour I can honestly say I didn't think of uterine rupture at all. It was wonderful and empowering. Because I did not have all the monitoring or anything I became a celebrity at hospital and midwives came from other wards to meet me and discuss how I did it...so funny. Many women have said the same thing. Let your body take over and do what it knows how to do. This pregnancy I'm far less scared, am already informed, so I'm not going to research (It only scares me more) and maybe I'll try for a homebirth again.
