We wrapped our DD until she was 7 months old. Not by choice, she just wouldn't sleep unless she was wrapped, I didn't see a problem with it, but it was hard at times, especially out and about.
I'm hoping that DS won't take after his big sister.
He is now 11 weeks old, and I'm just about to try his first night with out being wrapped. I'm still going to wrap his body just not his arms.
I'm just curious to know for those who are wrappers out there, when you made the move?
I stopped wrapping DD after a few weeks... I know people always say to wrap them at least for the first 3 months but DD didnt like it & would struggle alot to get out of it. I never had a problem with her not being wrapped, she slept from 6pm til 7am from 3 days old & this didnt change when I stopped wrapping her.
I think its depends on the child... if they're happy to be un-wrapped then I say go with what they want... they are individuals too. I'm sure you'll know soon enough what your DS prefers.

James stopped wanting to be wrapped when the weather got hotter. So he would have been around 15 weeks old.
I stopped around 6-7 weeks as DD hated her arms wrapped. Hates her arms and hands covered now with sheets and blankets.

I feel really nervous though. He was sleeping well being wrapped, maybe I should just go with it until he wants out. But part of me thinks it will be easier to make the change now rather than later, as we learnt with DD. But she was funny, one night she wanted to be wrapped the next she didn't and that was that, it was rather wierd.;)
I wrapped until about 3 months. I only stopped then because she all of a sudden just didnt like it anymore and would kick about and get the wrap off stright away... I tried for a while to just wrap her body but leave her arms out as she went through a thumb sucking phase, but now I dont wrap her at all and just use a sleeping bag instead.
We continued to wrap DD until she was nearly out of the cot! However, she could fall asleep (pram or whatever) ok after a few months old, it just helped on those occasions where she was less settled, etc. I actually found the main benefit of wrapping is it kept her arms still and she was less likely to wake herself up...don't know if I'd bother with wrapping without having her arms in there!
I think I stopped wrapping at about 2 months. DS just wouldnt stay wrapped and would scream when I wrapped him. He prefers the freedom and it hasnt affected his sleeping.
we stopped at 10 weeks, cant remember why, though it was over summer, she was fine went straight into a sleeping bag
i think it was at about 4 months... i wish i had of done it earlier though as she often would escape from her wrap then wake up, and i would have to get up and re-wrap her so she could go to sleep, then she would escape again, and so on and so on..... i think its important for them to learn their own unique way of soothing/settling themselves.... she likes to feel the fabric of the blanket between her fingers now, or roll onto her tummy and rub her face into the mattress, and if i was still wrapping her like she was in a straight jacket (i used to have to wrap her quite tightly) i would be robbing her of that, IYKWIM..... but i do understand why people wrap til a later age if it is working!!
'they' say to wrap until the startle reflex is gone, around six weeks i think, then there is no need... with my next i will be following this advice.... but if it is working and isn't posing a problem, i wouldn't change it.
I wrapped til about 9 weeks, I think. DD did still have crazy arms flying around for a few minutes sometimes when I put her down but she soon settled and would just put her arms up above her head as I put her to sleep. My DD never needed to be wrapped in order to sleep, tho
Jack didn't like being wrapped anymore from two weeks of age. Tom lasted a little longer, I think he was about 6 or 7 weeks old. Both adjusted really well to not being wrapped - they just like being able to move. They still, at 2 1/2 and nearly 1yo hate having their arms wrapped in a towel after a bath.
I am having this issue withing myself at the moment. Blake isn't sleeping well at the moment as it is so I'm thinking of stopping the wrapping now when I'm getting up 3-4 times a night anyway. Any suggestions on how I get him to not kick his blankets of and wake up stone cold though?
Yes Ashlee, try a Grobag, then it doesn't matter if they have a blanket or not. Good luck.

Our DS is almost five months and we have started wrapping him again. He has some eczema on his face and head so scratches in his sleep and wakes himself up. Then he is really cranky!! Am hoping it has settled by summer though otherwise am not sure what to do.

We are having this problem with Charlie ATM & I am up at least 5 times or more during the night & I am going nuts!!! he's 21wks but will not settle if he's not wrapped! It's a nightmare, I think with the next bubs I will stop very early.
He kicks about too & sleeps much better in a grobag as he doesn't get cold, but we still have his arms wrapped LOL & it amazes me he doesn't mind as he's always got his fist in his mouth.
The only reason people wrap without their arms in is usually to wean them off being wrapped. They still feel as though they have that comfort of being wrapped but learn to have their arms free. This is what we've been told to try but hasn't worked!:(
Xavier decided at about 2 weeks he didn't like being wrapped. So I don't push the issue during the day, and only wrap him when he's really tired at night and doesn't fight back. Even when he's wrapped he will always find a way to get his arms out.
I figure by doing a combination of both he will be warm enough at night and also learn to settle himself without the wrapping while he's asleep during the day.
Although I have considered getting a grow suit.
