Rayray, I work in IT, and in the past I have been involved in recruiting staff (not for ages though). I will pm you my email address - if you want to send it through I can have a quick look at it for you.
Some tips I can give you from the top of my head - keep it to 2 pages tops if you can. Make sure the front page "grabs" - I like to list "major achievements" on the front page, either prior to the details of your prior experience or as part of it - ie 1990 - 2000 - IT person, Company A, then a sub heading of Major Achievements before detailing the skills used etc.
Also tailor to the job you are applying for, make sure the things they list in the ad are highlighted in your CV if you have it, even if it is only a small exposure to it.
crap, I cut mine back to 4 pages!
PM me your email and I will send it to you.
Rayray, if you need another opinon, DH works in IT (as I mentioned to you the other day) and is also constantly recruiting. I could *try* ad get him to look at it for you. Try being the key word - he leaves for some Army thing this week...
MG
Hi MG. sorry I missed this. let me know if he is still around.
Sorry Ray - he is currently at Laverton (where you and I want to end up ;) nice base! ) and then off on a "Classified Road Trip" (his words ). He will be back in a couple of weeks...
i wish someone woul;d give my hubby a job in IT lol impossible
what does your DH do Ashley
me? im jess my son is ashley lol
he is currently a spare parts driver for toyota.....**** pay,**** bosses. he has applied for over 100 jobs in IT and they never even give him a interview.
Jess, OMG sorry yes I meant you.. LOL
Does he have experience/qualifications in IT related areas? Which state are you in?
lol ah its ok
Victoria.......hoppers crossing.....yes he does which i wouldnt have a clue cause im an idiot when it coems to em lol
Jess - My friend works in IT recruitment in Sydney and she told me that they cant find enough people to meet the IT demand. Feel like moving to Sydney?
There are hot spots for IT but it depends on the type of IT the person works in. Typically, there is a huge call for programmers but not for the kind of work my DH does... It can be difficult breaking into the industry. The other thing candidates have to contend with is the huge influx of IT workers coming over from India... DH said that 98% of applicants for anything his company advertises are from India...
Jess, I'm in Werribee :)
It might be to do with wording on his CV and or cover letter, especially if he is going thru recruiters. Plus MGs right, whle everyone goes on about how good the market is, it really depends a lot on what areas he is skilled in.
he is from sydney lol orginally sydney is soooo busy lol but hey if it got me a nice house lol
Oh cool werribee just over the otherside of the road lol
just wanted to check in see how it was going
oh I forgot I hadnt updated this, I got my new job late last year. I ended up getting on applying directly to the company.
I found rectruiters very hit and miss, in that I would apply to 2-3 for the same position, and one would be really eager and put me forward (and get me an interview) and another would say they didnt think I was what the employer was looking for.
Has you DH had anyone look at his CV? It might be worth it, it could just be he is underselling himself?
oh wow big congrats thats fantastic,,,hows it going?
Ah my Dh has given up on the IT there is just nothing....so he is going to focus on his architecture.....
