Intimacy after birth
I think im in the right section to ask about this subject - if not please feel free to move it to apporiate place.
Just wondering about sex after birth. It's been 5wks since bubs was born and well hubby and i tried the deed last night and i found it to be extremely painful, it pretty much felt like i was cut inside. Just wondering if this is what its like the first time after and will it be like that the first few times of love making.
Sorry if this post offends anyone.

I think this has been discussed a few times :) We waited probably about 8 weeeks before DTD, and it was very painful!! I have heard quite a few people who have said the same thing, and my midwife and doc warned me so I suppose its normal to feel pain there. It wasnt so bad the next time for me!

Hi Lana,
Congrats on Leila... she is gorgeous!
DH and I DTD at 6 weeks I think and it felt like I had a tear or something like that on the inside too. We did it 2 nights in a row and the second night seemed to be a lot better. Haven't tried it again though!

Phew so i am normal:cryinglaugh:
I think i'll wait a lil bit longer before trying again, cheers for the replies girls.

I guess it depends on the position, if u tore/cut etc.
I had a 2nd degree tear, vac extraction. But by 3 weeks i was climbing walls and there was no stopping me. PLenty of lube and taking it easy helped. I never got much discomfort DTD and if i did we stopped and tried something different.
Couldnt have been to bad...5-6 weeks later and i was UTD with #2.
Good luck :)

After #1 we waited 6 weeks and I agree it was painful. I had no tearing or anything of the sort but I had some pain for about 6 months following. Usually, the first few minutes were painful and then it was much better.
Dr said many of her patients complain of the same thing so it is normal but she also said she hadn't seen anyone complaining after a year.( I know a long time:()

Fear and/or tension will make the pain much worse. Try your best to relax, and go SLOWLY! Communicate carefully with your DH, so that he understands your fears and discomfort, and so that he knows you're not rejecting him, and that he's not doing everything wrong! Try different positions, plenty of lube, a little pain medication before, and I've heard many recommend a glass or two of wine (don't get carried away - not good for baby) just to help you relax.
By the way - look at how many people have more than one baby. ;) It'll get better. :) Be sure to talk to your OB though if things don't seem to improve. He/she might be able to help.
All the best!

Yeah, we waited til 4wks, and it was painful. Def have plenty of lube (that could have been our problem). But take it easy at first. By the end, there was no more pain, but I think we aggitated my stitches, as I lightly bled from that bit for a few hours and then found that it stung when I peeed. sorry tmi!
hth!

There are several Sex After Baby articles on the BB main site, in the relationships and post-natal sections - worth checking it out!

You might be a bit dry - especially if bfing. There are treatments that can help this, that are safe while bfing. I recommend speaking to your ob at the 6 week check up if you haven't had it yet, if you have perhaps see your GP. This can make a huge difference.
