My DD has oral thrush , I just started her on the Dakarin gel this morning. Now how do I know if I have it on my nipples. There is no signs of it, what do I use for my nipples if I do get it.

Hi Kerri,
I'm currently suffering from nipple thrush and it is certainly not fun. :( Like Shannon said, you'll definitely know if you get it as it hurts like nothing else. For me it felt like a sort of tingling -> burning feeling after and between each feed (during feeds was fine for me) with pain that radiated right through to my back. I read someone describe the pain as though acid is being drawn up through the breast via the nipple, and I can honestly say that pretty much hits the nail on the head. Being a first time BFer, I had it for weeks before I realised that this was even not normal . Silly me just figured that BFing had it's downside!
Things I find that help are... avoiding sugar (I'm a total sugar junkie, but the pain of thrush has been more than enough to get me to cut it out of my diet!) and taking Fast Tract (which is a very good organic probiotic that Kelly Z recommended - you'll find info on it if you do a search of the BB site). I've been doing both of these things and the pain is nowhere near as bad as it was - but not yet completely gone. I suspect that both of these suggestions would also work really well in preventing getting thrush in the first place so I highly recommend you consider them.
Sorry if I'm raving on a bit. But, having had the pain, I personally would do anything to avoid it! And hope you can too. Seriously, I'd much prefer to experience another drug-free labour any day, rather than have weeks of thrush pain!
Anyway, rant over! Good luck and I really hope you manage to avoid getting it!!:crossfingers:
Delightfully put Shannon, and so accurate, LOL!:
You would know if you had thrush, it hurts like all buggery
Seriously, Dakarin in your DD's mouth at every given opportunity, and Dakarin on your boobs before a feed.
I really hope you don't get it on your nipples. Makes my toes curl thinking about it. (I got it when I was BF'ing my son. Horrible. NelleBelle echoes my thoughts on the matter entirely!)
Get some Inner Health or some In-Liven or Fast tract into you as a precaution perhaps?
Good luck!
