1 yo tantrums and slapping other babies!

Cooper seems to be going through a stage (OH GOD, I hope that is all it is!), where he will slap other babies and even started to head butt a baby the other day (but not hard thankfully :rolleyes:)

And about 3 days ago, he started to hit his head lightly against many things, like the glass window, toys, and even the tiled floor :wall: (literally!). When he doesn't know that I am watching, he will come up to me, and touch his head letting me know that he hit it! (It is very cute when he does that...)

I would love to know how stop him doing it with other babies, I have tried lightly smacking him (that just seemed wrong, telling him not to slap by smacking him :doh:) said a very firm 'NO', but nothing is working yet.

I am going through the EXACT same thing at the moment!!!
The day care leader asked my DH to try and teach Jacob to stop head butting!! he he he.... I know I shouldnt laugh but I did!! What do you do...... he is only 11 months old......
He smacks and now he has started to pinch me on the chest!!!!!!!
I started with a smack on the hand but then I realised that when I smacked him on the hand for it he thought that was funny and continued to smack... hence not teaching him anythng about it being a wrong or "naughty" thing to do......
so I have to say I have now resorted to a very loud "STOP" and pointing of the finger...... that seems to work a bit..... he still likes to head butt the coffee table and the glass sliding doors.... but what do you do!!! He has seemed to have stopped head butting the other kids at day care so thats the main thing!

I have found the only way I can get him to stop pinching me is to pinch him back when he does it... sometimes he thinks its funny but he is learning that it hurts and along with it I do a nice loud "STOP"

And I really think at the moment it is a "phase"
I am a little worried with Jacob as # 2 is due Feb so if he does it once to her I will be giving him a nice whollap on the bum and it will be straight in his cot with the door shut until he learns.... sadly the hard way..... but with a new baby hes gonna have to learn quick smart!!!

Sorry to ramble on there but I am kinda relieved to know I am not the only one at the moment going through this.....

Sometimes we just have to laugh about it!! but definalty when they are not looking!! he he he

hopefully it is just a phase, my DD is 18 months and about 3 months ago i posted asking how to stop her biting, hitting and pinching. I found it was when she did not get what she wanted ie a toy someone else was playing with or if there was lots of ppl around and she did not have my full attention. I was the only adult she'd lash out at but at playgroup she was a nightmare and very mean to the other bubs. My CHN suggested i ignore the behaviour completely (very hard when she is hurting another child) and give my attention the the other child. It was hard work to do so but for the last 2 wks she has been an angel esp at playgroup an now a few of the other kids have started been a little rough. I find this amusing as i was made to feel bad for her behaviour by one of these tots parents, my assumption is it was a phase and becos in the end she was getting no reaction she grew tired of it. HTH.

I agree with the CHN. If you ignore the child who is being naughty but give the one getting hurt lots of cuddles and attention I am sure it will stop pretty quickly. It usually is an attention seeking kind of behaviour.
