vbaC2 VERY important to me

Hi girls

This has been ob my mind so much that its hard to think straight anymore about having # 7. I am soooooo not wanting to have to have another c-section. I had my first four naturally and then last two were by c-section. I had a horrible birth with Pheeny, my last one, and I am actually petrified of having to go through another c-section ever again, feeling them cutting me omg it terrifies me to have to go through that again because of their slack job. Long story!

So it would be a vbac2 if I was to birth naturally again.

Can you fight a hospital if that is what you want? I mean it is my body-my child.


How long would one have to leave it after having a c-section to have another pregnancy? Remembering my last two were a c-section?

You may be able to find a hospital that will let you have a vba2c. I wouldn't know where though-maybe someone else might know.
But I would suggest, depending on the reasons for your c/s's, considering a homebirth. You have had 4 kids naturally, obviously your body knows what to do. If you birth in a hospital you are more likely to end up with another c/s and it sounds like you had a really scary experience last time.
I think the recommended time to wait to concieve after a c/s is 12 months. Don't quote me on that though.

aw thank you sweetie for replying. How much is a homebirth these days? My hubbie wouldn't let me have one tough as he would be way to scared as I had a scary birth with number 3 . Mind you I wouldnt mind a homebirth but if there was an energency I dont want to be even a second away from a hossy cause that second could cost me the life of me or bubs kwim?

I am not sure about other homebirth midwives but I carry enough emergency equipment and drugs to keep mum and baby alive for about 45 mins without backup. I am also well trained and very experienced in neonatal and adult resusitation.
An option that you could consider if you don't want a homebirth is to hire a homebirth midwife to support you in hospital. This will then prevent the hosp from pressuring you into a CS if it is not really needed.

Between $2000-$4000. Some private health insurance companies do cover homebirth, and lots of women use the baby bonus to pay for it too.
To be perfectly honest with you Soul, I am a firm believer that the reason for most emergencies is hospital intervention. I know sometimes things happen, but independant midwives are very experienced and if they even had an inkling something was wrong would not hesitate in getting you to hospital. My dd was actually a planned homebirth, we ended up transferring just because it was a really really long labour, it was not an emergency.
That is a good idea from Alan about hiring a midwife to take to hospital with you, though they can't actually do anything medical there they can advise you about what is happening so you can make a more informed decision rather than just having the hospital staff tell you what they think.

you know in your heart that you do not want another c/s...surround yourself with health care providers who will guide and advocate for you (so as Alan suggested a m/w or perhaps even a doula)

I seem to recall that the body needs at least 18-24 months between c/s...with most doctors advising a maximum of 3 c/s

To be honest I dont have money like that to use a private midwife just to get them to say what I would say myself. They cant stop a c-section if the hossy refuse to go along with a vbac2 kwim? We are saving for a house and I cant afford to hire a private midwife just to talk to the hospital.

What I was asking is can a hospital "Refuse" to give a patient a vbac2?


Hopefully when I finish my Doula course I will have gathered enugh information myself to know how to beat the system in what my rights are.

not sure if they can refuse...depends on policy and the doctor i guess...but women have been refused care for such things as their weight (a standard theatre table can only take a certain weight limit)

if you really do want a vba2c...then use your wonderful doula (to-be) skills to convince your doctor ;)

Hi Soul honey... I don't think they can refuse you. They can't actually make you do anything if you don't want as it's your body!!

aw hey beautiful lady, oh I agree now, I decided that I would be sneaky and wait till I am in full on labour and then go in and then have a mental if they even try to cut me open!!! I will scream "Sue" if they even think about it. Do you think that might work????

It's a very stressful way to go about it though, Soul. Birth shouldn't be a time when you are fighting battles - very counterproductive, physiologically and psychologically.

Soul, I was going to do the same thing but my DH is so worried about rupture etc that I had to compromise. I will go in when labour starts to get regular and will agree to minimum monitoring only so that I can be mobile and use positional pain relief. A hospital cannot force a c/s. They can't technically refuse to help a lady in labour either so you have that on ur side. We just have to both hope our bubs cooperate and allow us to try for VBAC2

I was VERY regular when we went to the hospital, in fact needed to push just as we were leaving to go!! I had monitoring with Oskar.. and I am glad I did cos he was in distress and when they broke my waters it was full of meconium. My waters hadn't broken and bulging in front of him. There was no mention of a second c/s - he was instead vacuum assisted and this was with a c/s scar and it didn't rupture and had more chance of that than if it was a completely natural, no assistance birth. He was born 3 1/2 hours after I realised I was in labour.

I noticed your on the central coast. If your willing to go to John Hunter Hospital for your birth they are very pro VBAC, VBAC2 there.
My ob actually had a big chat with my today about doing a VBAC2. My c-sections were because of baby size (huge because of GD) so he is closely monitoring my fundal height and blood sugars. All going well he is confident I can VBAC2.

You might want to give them a call if you can't get your local hospital on board.

Eternalbear, I have had GD with my last four kids, one of them was almost 10 pounds, but I still had a natural birth, the only reason they did C-section was because they were completley breech. First c-section was also due to a massive dermoid cyst on my right over so they took that out at the same time.
