Episiotomy.... how deep do they cut?

This question has been eating away at me for a while.... when you have an epis, how deep do they generally cut?!?

I forgot to ask at my 6 week checkup!

Hey Danielle

an epis is generally cut as the perineum is stretched and thin....and then the cut is around 2-3cms in length (one snip of the scissors...sorry if TMI)

I don't really know. I assume they only cut as much as they have to, so sometimes that may be a little or a lot kwim? I know when I had mine it was through the muscle pretty well as it hurt to sit and lift my left leg, but I don't know how deep it was.
