Height issues?
Hi all,
Lexie has her 12 month check up today. All good.
Until they did her weight/height and plotted them.
She has always been tiny, and so to be honest, I wasn't in the least bit concerned.
But she has dropped from the 25th percentile for weight and height (which was where she started at birth and she has travelled along in the 25th percentile for weight & height at her 2 month, 4 month and 6 month checks.)
But today (despite them re-measuring her a few times) she shows a drop to the 15th percentile in weight (7.4kg which I am NOT bothered about at all) and the height she has dropped off the chart. (She is only 65cm long)
She looks perfectly in proportion to me. And of course she is happy and eating well and incredibly content. So on the one hand I am not worried.
But of course my GP has freaked me out by referring us to our paed to get her checked out. His reasoning was that it was a "significant drop" in her height growth & kind of implied it was a sign of something?
(My GP is really sound, he knows that the percentile charts are indicative only, but he expressed concern over the drop, IYKWIM?)
SO, my question is this: has anyone else had a baby who has shown a drop in the rate at which they grown height/lengthwise? What are the implications?

i hate those damm charts - that are a mother's worse nightmare and make it soo stressful for us mum's by worrying us that we are or arn't doing the right thing
my DS wasn't even on those charts before he was two as he was prem. At 2 1/2 he was so far above the charts that he wasn't on them again. At age 4 1/2 he is now the correct size and weight for a 10 year old according to those charts.
you DD may have gained weight and just ready to start growing again!
as long as she is eating, looks in proportion and your instinct tells you that all is fine- the I would get it checked out - but wouldn't stress about it!
Both my kids height and weight didn't go up the same- as long as it keeps going up- thats the main thing!
HTH and good luck

My GF got referred to her paed for the same thing, for both of her kids, and in her case all they paed didi was look at the child, ask what the mum was doing there, and tell her her kids were perfectly fine, just small and petite.
I think they just have to be overly cautious, JIC. I do know of a girl who stopped growing at a certain age (very young) and needed medical intervention etc for her condition (not sure what It was but she's tall now and just went to ehe US on a scholarship to play college basketball)

Paris got referred for the same thing.. we had to see a paed. The paed told us that because her weight and height was following its own pattern it was fine, as you say she's in proportion. I wouldn't be too worried.

Oh Lucy that is worrying, but I so agree those charts are a menace! I can't offer any suggestions but on the flip side being really humungously tall is no good either - DH was 6 foot at 13 years old - I shudder when I see how tall Flynnie is getting.

Thanks girls, I really appreciate your input.
I am less stressed by it all today.
Although she has gastro, poor little chook, so I am feeling a bit sad and helpless from being spewed on.......
-
Oh no! I am lucky Flynn hasn't had gastro yet, but then he hasn't got two older siblings to infect him. I guess I have that too look forward to no doubt ;)
-
My house, my car, my self.........all stink of spew.........

I empathise Lucy - except we've got the poo smell too. Poor DD is just getting over gastro. I hope your little one recovers quickly and that it misses the rest of the family. I got it off DD and felt awful - thank goodness DH was dismissed early from his exercise and was home to look after DD whilst I rode the porcelan bus...
